since the axim is powerful enough to emulate the gba, then why doesnt nintendo set up a perfect emulator, create a compactflash to gba game adaptor, and sell them
that way we can easily get the latest games leagally, and it owuld increase their market... would this work??? id probobly get it
Probably most of Nintendo's profits come from the machines them selves.. (i dont know for a fact...)
and a GBA cartridge would be kind of bulky attached
to an adapter..
What it would do is, bring emulation to the general populations
attention, and people who never knew of emulation before
would now know about it, and find illegal roms on their own,
completely bypassing nintendo.

They make very little, if anything at all on the machines. All the money is from the game sales.
Nintendo prides themselves on producing flawless hardware and software. There's no way they would allow their games to be run on a pocketpc emulator.
If you are going to be buying the actual GBA carts, then why not spend the extra $99 on a GBA? Then you get like 16 hours of battery life (as opposed to 6 on a PDA), no chance of crashing or loss of speed, and buttons that are actually made for game play...

Very correct, sir. I'm not sure of what the manufacturer themselves make off of the systems, but I bet it's not much (if anything). I know first-hand that retail stores themselves actually LOSE about $5 - $15 on each game console that is sold. A very slight amount more is made by a retail store on the games. And the HUGE profits come from all the accessories that most gamers buy.
So basically.....Systems are marked below store cost. Games are marked up just a hair over store cost. And accessories are marked up anywhere from around 50% all the way up to 700+% over store cost.
I'd be very interested to see if the manufacturer even makes profit off the systems, or if they just make it up in accessories/games/books/etc. as well.

Microsoft itself has admitted to losing almost $99 on each Xbox sold...so I am sure it the same idea with the GBA for Nintendo (and definetly the game cube at $99)
Originally posted by Magicmonger I'll bet they make 300% profit on the machines and over 1000% profit on the games. Either way, THEIR MAKING MONEY HAND OVER FIST.
lol, no way buddy. It takes big money to produce games now.
Hell, Nintendo is lucky to still be around. They would've died with the N64, but the Gameboy (more specificly, Pokemon) saved the company's ass.
You realize how costly it is to make video games now? We're talking millions and millions. And projects take years to make, and many games (esp. PC) see many delays.
As far as consoles, they actually LOSE money. It costs more to make them than the price they sell, esp. at the cheaper prices we see now. Just as Bill Gates. ;)
So yeah, money is made on the games themselves... but to say it's a 1000% profit is laughable beyond belief.
