Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a dell but i would like to play games on it aswell.
Is the x5 or the x3 best for games??
What about the d-pad- i have heard their was a problem with it-did it affect both the x3 and x5? Is this problem sorted on the new ones?
How heard is it to use the d-pad can you move diagonal using it??
Or would it be better getting another pda.- its just that dell seems good value ( here in the UK) unless you go for second-hand.
I use my D-Pad for games quite often, with few problems. Are you planning on using the Axim for anything else except games? If not, you may want to go with the X5 just because you can get larger sizes of CF cards for less money than the same size SD card.

I hope to play games on it, play mps, view pictures, watch mpeg and probably use word to write reports when I teach.
Is the X3 faster then the X5 ?
I have seen some games that support the X3 but not the X5- so does the X3 have a graphics chip in or is there something that is different between the two.
With regards to card i have seen cards that are not much dearer to flash cards.
I honestly don't think there is much of a speed difference between the new X5s and the X3s. And I am not aware of any games that will support one and not the other, considering they are both X-Scale and are now both running 2003.

You should get the X3 because of the faster processor, better built-in speaker, much better d-pad, and the slimmer design. The X5 d-pad is horrible and hard to use.
most of the games I play are more like puzzle games, anything that has action and requires movement (like with a game pad or such) I play on my PC or laptop; the screen is just too small.
the X5 is just fine for what I play.

Actually, the X3 has much better graphics processing. I'm not sure exactly what (other than the PXA263 processor) is different in the X3 than in the X5, but it makes a ton of difference. With emulators, especially SNES, I get a good ~20fps faster on the X3.
Most PPC games play the same as on the X5, but I have found one that does not. This game is GTS Racing Challenge by Astraware. It plays waaaaaay too fast on the X3, in fact it's too fast to the point that it is unplayable. The cars are moving entirely too fast to control properly. The game moves approximately 6x faster on the X3, as far as I can tell just using a standard stopwatch. It is more playable if you put the X3 in PowerSave mode, but is still way too fast to be enjoyable. Just as a note, I have informed the head PPC developer at Astraware of this, and he replied by saying that the developers of GTS Racing have been notified and are working on the problem.
I haven't found any other games than GTS Racing that run improperly on the X3. I've tried a very large selection of titles, and all run just fine. And as mentioned before games that were struggling on the X5, like SNES emulation, run much faster on the X3.
Hope this helps a little. :)

hey um eh, deftech, how does the x3 play argentum? ive noticed on my x5 that when theres a loot of action going on, like gun fire and explosion and stuff, the frame rate drop some. Hows it run on the x3?
Hey deftech, how do the d-pads compare? I have an x3i, but I've never been able to fudge around with an x5 d-pad.
The oval/rectangular shape of the x3i d-pad has never bothered me (well, except for fighting games, but the buttton layout would always be more of an issue).
I want to buy my little bro a Axim/portable emulator for his b-day, and I was just wondering how the 2 d-pads weighed in. Thanks :D
I personally like the "tight" feel of the X3i d-pad myself. The d-pad on the X5 always seemed a little "loose" to me, and made it difficult to control some games. The only slight annoyance of the X3i d-pad is that it has the separate center-button. This isn't a problem most of the time, but feels a little funny every now and then.
