Is there an Atari Lynx amulator out there? I have the roms, and I would love to go back to my childhood and re-play some of these games. It had some of the better arcade ports (Rampart, Rygar, Klax) of its time.
Well, the arcade comment was a bit misleading. There are certain Lynx games (like Slime World), that I'd love to just play around with for a bit. And some games, like APB for example, just play better when intended for a console or handheld... since some arcade controls aren't well-suited for emulation on a pc or ppc (like trackballs and steering wheels).
So thanks! Unfortunately, I've had a little trouple with setup...
I copied the .exe file over, grabbed GAPI library and copied over the required GX.DLL file into my Windows directory, "located" the Atari Lynx boot rom, and it tells me to "put this boot rom file under the root dir of your device"...
The root directory is just the main directory. If you sync to your computer and then use the Explore Option in AS, then double click on the My Device (I think) icon, and that should be your root directory.

Ok, I tried that, and it didn't work... then I located another Lynx boot rom, placed it there, and ta-daa! All good.
For all 2 of you actually interested in a review of a Lynx emulator, here I go.
Wow, bad times for all :rolling:
I mean, has anyone seen screencaps of this thing? It's portrait, so they can have a (pointless) rendering of the actual Lynx system on the bottom half of the screen with the game-play taking place in another rendering of a monitor on the top half... it's the incredible shrinking screen. There are no options to go full screen, landscape... nothing.
You can't re-map the buttons, so the A and B buttons are the Inbox and Contacts buttons... you know, the 2 buttons surrounding the d-pad. I'm speechless, I really am. This makes for a very poor gaming experience.
SO, in conclusion:
Pros
You can (kind of) play Classic Atari Lynx games on your ppc!
Cons
You'll need mutant-like super vision to be able to fully experience it.
Buttons cannot be re-mapped, and were pre-mapped in the worst possible way.
No option to adjust display e.g. adjust screen size, go full-screen, etc.
I probably didn't really want to play those old games anyway
the lynx rendering isn't pointless: had they made it full-screen, it would be much like playing Quake on PPC: HUGE FPS DROPS...
also giving it full-screen would not improve on anything as the original lynx had a mere 160x102 screen resolution, which is pretty close to the size to the "welcome to windows media" video clip on your axim.

Wow. HUGE, huh? Comparing Quake to an Atari Lynx rom sounds like a stretch, but I probably shouldn't comment since I haven't played Quake on my ppc, but I'll take your word for it since you're so emphatic about it.
And no, I don't literally mean full-screen. Maybe just "letterboxed" in the same manner that Morphgear plays roms. I still find the rendering pointless. Have you seen screenshots of this emulator in "action"? They couldn't get the screen to stretch at least to the edges (while losing the pretty Lynx system graphic)? I'm not the expert at this stuff that you are, but if the Gamegear (with a 160x144 resolution) plays just fine at a playable size, why can't the Lynx roms do the same or close to it?
the graphic is a screen filler. They need it to keep at the original resolution and to fill the rest of the screen, hence the name. If you don't like this emulator, guess what: too bad.
You didn't pay them for it.
You didn't write it.
You're not their mother.
You're not in the position to tell them to re-write their emulator to better suit YOU.
The point of this post is: YOU don't like this emulator, you're more than welcome to write your own, that will stretch the image across the entire screen, the way YOU want to play it...
I personally am greatful that they wrote an emulator AT ALL, and even though a full screen mode would be a nice addition, I'm not going to go and flame them for not making one...
IF YOU WANT BETTER SCREEN SIZE, G-E-T A L-Y-N-X and U-S-E I-T.

Why do you continue to flame when I'm only trying to understand these things?
And why are you trying to put words in my mouth? I would hate to actually get bothered by one of your posts, put you in your place, then get banned from these boards
Please state exactly WHERE I asked "them to re-write their emulator to better suit" ME... because I can't seem to find it...
I wrote a "REVIEW". I'll help you understand this concept.
Movie critics write "REVIEWS". They are often "CONSTRUCTIVE". These can include good-natured sarcasm as all involved are mature enough to take it. A movie critic can dislike a movie, BUT that does not mean that if they do not like it, the movies creators will go telling them to go make their own to better suit them. That's just childish.
I asked you to enlighten me on these things as you are all-knowing, and I am not. Thank you for your help. Why you are so belligerent about it is beyond me. But feel free to explain it to me in your reply. I'm an adult. A little criticism doesn't bother me.
If you read my post fully (I have a sneaking suspicion you did not ), then you'll understand that I DID decide to forget about the emu and just go back to Morphgear. So relax with the caps-lock.
Oh, and I realize I'm not their mother. Have a Happy New Year!
Come on guys.....let's not turn this thread (or the other one) into a bunch of flaming posts to each other. I'm not saying that's where it's at now, but it sure looks as if that might be where it's headed.
So please play nice, and help keep the peace here at Aximsite. :)

I don't have time for this, so stop flaming me with your "good-natured sarcasm":
