I'm looking for something like...
For those of you who have been avid video game players through the years and are familiar with a good number of ppc games, I thought I'd pick your brain a bit in hopes of finding something new to play on my Axim
![]() There have probably been many threads like this in the past, basically, I'm looking for ppc equivalents of games like... Magic Sword - an older medieval side-scroller... basic hack and slash stuff. Metal Slug - or a Contra clone, I suppose (anyone familiar with the classic Gunstar Heroes?). Final Fantasy Tactics - or maybe, Ogre Battle... I had a blast with both. Anything you guys have played that even remotely resembles the gameplay of these games would be sweet. Thanks Disclaimer: Please don't tell me to just grab the roms of these games and play them on an emulator... I'm just looking for something new i.e. a fresh take on these classics.

Uh, Wow.
This game is awesome! Firepower is an intense game, and you can't really pause, but it is awesome for it's smooth gameplay (even on a basic axim) and it's high rez graphics and sound. It is a really good game. It is very hard to play though. it is a challenge, but it is addictive.

I actually reviewed this game in these very forums a few days back... it's there on page one a few posts down if you're interested. Graphics are definitely killer.
I haven't played it in a bit. I love that it's a difficult game. I think I'll pick it up after work as I wait out traffic ![]() And I'll definitely check out Nethack when I get home. Mmmmm... freeware...

Nethack is a great, but very challenging game. it's also very complex, so I highly recommend you do a google search for Nethaq faqs and put a few on your Axim or read a few before you try playing.

Isn't Fire Power Onrush a "one-hit wonder"? I hate those...Siberian Strike X is a far superior game (you can actually save your games, survive a hit or two, move around the screen, save $3, etc,...)

I've played Siberian Strike X on a friend's Ipaq, and it is definitely a great game. I like the large variety of weapons and the fact that it has more levels.
However, I still find the Fire Power artwork to be much better. It has a great cartoony feel and large, attractive sprites. And poor control still plagues both games. This is all due to the PDA d-pad though. These games are always better suited to a joystick or gamepad. I still don't see how dying in one shot is a bad thing. Just my opinion, but all of the old school shooters were like that, and it just keeps you on your toes and makes it ultimately more challenging. Just a pet peeve, but it also reminds me of the days before the internet and faqs when you were playing a quest-type game and had to figure out the puzzles yourself. Or when you played an rpg, and you had to navigate mazes all on your own. Or when you had to play an action game with only 3 lives per 3 continues. Not to get back on topic but does anyone have any more suggestions? I read somewhere that Tommy Kombat is "like Metal Slug", but I can't get the demo to work on my Axim. Here is a link. Unsuccessful because I'm running 2003, maybe?
