I know about the intended port of FreeCiv(if it ever happens!)
Its already been ported to a sharp palm so its obviously be possible.

I just want a decent civ clone to keep me going til then!

You can keep an eye on the sourceforge site where the FreeCiv port is being developed. I used to have a copy of the source but i can't find it currently and i'm sure others have more updated versions. I know they are looking for people to get involved, so if you feel you want to contribute your time to this project then i suggest going to their site.

Other work by Jennifer Glover, who is heading this project is the port of Dope Wars, which is easily found online and also free to use. Currently they say the project isn't dead, but as with most things there are real life concerns that are making it hard to devote the time, so if you have the time then volunteer.
