NES Emulator questions from NewB
Hello, I'm brand new to the site and new to emulation.

Does anyone have any good sites that explain how to run PocketNestor and where to get the games? I understand what it's supposed to do, I just don't know how to do it.

I have the High End Axim and I love it so far and reading some of the threads, PocketNestor seems to be the popular NES Emulator... I'd love ot play the old games like Excitebike I love, but I have no clue where to start, what to download and where to put it all.

Thanks in advance for any help or direction pointing you guys can give.

Scott

PocketNester Instructions
I'll try to make instructions pretty simple. It's really a very easy program to use, so it shouldn't take you long to get it up and running.

1) Download PocketNester (In Downloads Section Here at aximsite.com)

2) Extract the Zip File to a folder

3) Place Axim in Cradle

4) Run pnsetup_arm.exe

5) Follow onscreen instructions to finish installation

6) Now you just need to find some games (They are called NES ROMS)

7) It's against forum policy to post direct links here, but some simple searching on Google for "NES ROMS" (leave the quotes) will find plenty of places to start. Be warned to avoid a site mentioned on many forums called FreeRoms (it is a bad site, and has neverending PopUps).

8) Once you have found some roms, it's now time to transfer them to your Axim. Open the folder with your NES ROMS in one window. In a second window, go to My Computer > Mobile Device (or whatever your Axim is labeled as on your desktop). Simply drag and drop the NES ROMS over to the Axim's folder.
Tip: You can create a ROMS folder on your Axim to help organize things a little.
Tip2: You can leave the NES ROMS in their .zip files, because PocketNester will play zipped roms.

9) On your Axim, Go to Start > Programs > Games and open up PocketNester.

10) Click Options > Controllers....For each control, Hit the "..." button and then hit the button that you want to assign to that Control. When finished mapping controls, press OK.

11) Click File > Open ROM....Select the game you want to play.

12) Have Fun Playing NES!

BTW, I have found that Excitebike, PunchOut, and the original Goonies (import from Famicom system....never released for NES) ROMS do not work with PocketNester.

Sorry if these are not the best instructions in the world, but thought it might help out some newbies that might have a small problem somewhere. Hope this helps someone!

What is the best way to "map" the keys i.e.; up, down, "a", "b", etc..? I'm trying to set this up for my son to play in the car and I don't play myself, so not sure which buttons should do what.

Thx

I personally use the D-Pad for Up/Down/Left/Right. 'B' assigned to E-mail button, 'A' assigned to Home button, 'Select' assigned to Calendar button, and 'Start' assigned to Contacts button.

My excitebike works fine in my pocketnester. It's the 17.1k ZIP file version. Punch Out the same thing happens where my character is all letters and numbers. MUSCLE is a little screwy..the ring is split up oddly. Paperboy doesn't work right either

i finally found the excitebike that works on it.

fyi, for those that think these games take alot of memory, i have 640 zipped files (games) on my SD card and it only takes 66.2 MB of space on it. i am going to narrow my games down to about 50 or so because when you go to open rom it takes about a minute or two for the hella long list to come up.
