Man, I don't want to preorder the durn cd, I want to download and play it NOW! <sigh> It also looks like they're working on a playable demo rather than the crappy movie one.

Ok, I have just finished the demo and here is a brief review of the game: (I didn't post this in the reviews section since I am reviewing only the demo version.)
First of all, those of you who have experience playing the old RPGs where you type such commands as "open door" or "take torch" will recognize this kind of game right away. However, typed commands are replaced by an easy to use hand and menu system that is robust enough to handle almost any desired action. For those of you who have never played this type of RPG before, the best way that I can describe this game is a cross between D&D and Myst. The graphics are clean, crisp, and beautiful. The descriptions are relatively well written with only a few spelling errors throughout. The demo also comes with an almost 20 page long e-Book that describes the back-story and premise of the game. Keep in mind, the demo version is short. The demo only allows you to have access to four screens and one encounter before requiring you to register the game. To register the game, you have two options. You can either download the game through PocketGear or Handango for $24.95 or buy the CD through Amazon or Paypal for the same price plus S&H. Keep in mind that the extra seven bucks for S&H will get you a CD with the high-res cinematics that the download version lacks and several PC extras. Furthermore, registered users will be able to download new quests for free as they are released. Granted, $31.95 (including shipping) is a lot to pay for a PocketPC game compared to other games. However, you cannot deny the fact that this game has the potential to suck every penny of value out of that price since the game will be continually updated with new adventures.
Originally posted by Raynne413 Thanks for the mini-review. I was wondering how the gameplay was. How is the fighting? Is it easy to do? How do you fight?
The best way to describe gameplay is to compare it to Shadowgate. The game consists of static pre-rendered images with a few animated items such as spiders, torches, etc. You navigate the world via a hand that works like a mouse pointer complete with a drop down menu for actions. You can also move around by using the compass. The bottom of the screen displays a portrait, compass, a D20 for rolls, icons for stats, fight, gear, and so on. Between the stat bar and the main window is a text bar that describes the scene like a DM would. Fighting is simplicity itself. Click on your attack, and let the dice do the rest.
Don't order the Arm version, there is an Xscale version. The Arm version doesn't work and I'll be spending the next few weeks trying to get it traded at handango.

Thanks for the info Phantom. I liked Shadowgate, except the torches kept going out and I couldn't see anything and ended up dying. :D
I am sorry Emonair. That is going to be pain. I do remember having to do a return when Handango was ALOT smaller and got it through with no problems. So hopefully this will go smoothly for you.

I thought I saw it posted that you could buy this (CD version) from Amazon/PayPal for 24.95 (?) But, when I went to www.sorcerypad.com, they had the CD version for 19.95 pre-order. Is this pre-order item the same thing Amazon is selling for 24.95?
Ok, so handango had the switch done for me this morning at 9:30. I think that's pretty darn slick(less than 12 non-business hours). Then the registration number didn't work. TTI had the new one to me in a few hours. Now i'm getting sorcerypda.cab is not a valid windows setup file.
:*(
I wonder if I should just copy it over and try running setup. Anyone have any experience with this?

Only a bad thing if you expect anything more. I am just more into Final Fantasy type RPG's; I just get bored with RPG's like Sorcery (very static, low action), so I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't more. But for some people, it works and that's great. I put my money towards Rayman Ultimate instead! (really cool game, just not a RPG)!
I ended up unzipping it and dragging the contents to my sd card. I then opened the setup file. That didn't do anything. Opening the cab file seems to have prompted an installation. It's now installed and working fine. Not a very intuitive installation though.
