This problem also happened with the OpenGL|ES version. Apparently it was an older gx.dll file, which caused the trouble, as rooslix found out.
Read here for more.
Note, that the version linked above only works with the X50v, since it use hardware accelerated OpenGL.

Don't grab the source file, it will not work. For X50v users, tala did make a special Opengl|es version that looks great and plays most games at a descent speed. Here's the link:

Hopefully Tala can get with Mr.X from Pocketmatrix (Creator of Yeti 3d for pocket pc)so that they can together make the Opengl|es version of Morphhgear ;)! Mr.X is looking into it right now...

I can't seem to load a rom from my sd card with this emulator...? How do you do it?

Which Version do you use? If you use the OpenGL|ES version please post in the according thread. I am always looking for feedback/bug reports. Also if you have some suggestions feel free to drop a line.
Regarding your question, PocketSNES OpenGL scans the whole device for usable ROMS. Atm i have no clue, why this is not working, since you are the first reporting this issue.

Yep, Mr.X has the sources (for the texture loader and the texture memory lookup) for a few weeks now. Still implementation into Morphgear may take him some time, since you have to be very careful not to break compatibility with other devices.
Sadly i am very occupied at the moment, so i cannot look into Morphgear atm. I feel lucky if i find some time to improve PocketSNES, which did not happen very often in the last few months to say the least.
Still i have some ideas to improve CPU emulation for the SNES9x emulation core. Is there anyone working on this for Morphgear?

The games play really well, but the sound is kind of ceunchy. Would the X50 mix help?

Actually there is someone ;)! He improved the original PocketSnes... Emulamer will be doing speed optimiztions later for Morphgear or the new Snes Core we are trying to port over.
R4ph43l is porting the new snes core (1.43) and is replacing the current one (1.43 WIP), he's been pretty busy studying for exams though. So until R4ph43l gets the time to make build 2 (I tested build 1 and told him there were some kinks he had to fix before we release it), Emulamer will have to wait a bit to optimize it with incredible speed. Emulamer is kinda busy right now at the moment as me and him are trying to figure out the newest Gapi Tweak's problem with Morphgear. Version 2.0a will not be released until we figure it out. As for Mr.X, I'll email him to see how is progress is so far on making Morphgear OpenGL|ES, he has his own little projects to do as well. Just a little recap for you all;)!

So what's the status on this? Specifically both emulamer's and tala's binaries don't work on my X51v. Tala's says it needs a 50v, emulamer's just starts, lets me pick a game, then freezes. (I can still click on the URL to launch PIE)
I wouldnt mind too horribly to use morphgear instead, but is that one already up to pocketSNES performance? I don't really know what to expect, performance wise.. I know that super mario world 1 does run, but turning on video smoothing makes it too slow....

What kind of performance are people getting on PocketSNES on their x50v?
For me it depends on the game, but very few games seem to be able to get above 30fps, and that is running the CPU at 100%. Am I doing something wrong? It seems the Axim's CPU should be more than enough to run these games at full speed.

As far as I know *NO* version of pocketsnes works on the x51v.
At least none of the accellerated ones (like tala's or emulamer's)

arent the x50v and the x51v relativly the same thing? other then the WM5 os and 256mb ROM?

Yeah but that's still the problem.
Tala's OpenGL optimized compile doesn't recognise the x51v and aborts
Emulamer's just crashes on my x51v. No idea what it does on x50's
