Freeware: XWords - Very nice Scrabble (like) game

I just read about this freeware game of Scrabble, called XWords.

http://xwords.sourceforge.net/cemainbrd.php

I tried it, and it is pretty impressive. And the game executable is tiny. There are multiple levels of dictionaries to choose from, in many different languages. The dictionaries vary from as little as 4k up to 500k. The game itself is only 105k. You can even build your own dictionaries to use with the game.

Very nice for a freeware game !!! :approve:

There is a new release of XWords, which fixes issues some users reported which prevented them from using it on their WM2003 devices. :)

Anyone who had problems with XWords to work, see this thread:

I just downloaded 4.1b1 and it has locked up during each game on my x50v. I guess there are still issues with WM2003 SE.

Too bad... It seems to be a very strong opponent.

Have you tried the 4.06 previous version ?

Also, you can write to the developer ... Eric House, and mention your issues.

He's very good at responding to his emails.

I just tried 4.06 and the File/Game/Move menu items are missing. Same problem referred to in the thread:

http://www.pdacorps.com/forum/forum_...?TID=3983&PN=1

I'll send a note to the developer. Hopefully, it's an easy fix.

I used to play scrabble a lot on the Palm I had and was looking forward to playing on the x50v. Unfortunately, the Handmark version has a problem with vga.

Thanks,

Mark

The Xwords developer, Eric House, joined PDACorps and is now participating in the above PDA Corps thread. His member name is "fixin".

Please feel free to join PDACorps, and participate in the thread as well. :)

I emailed Eric a few days ago and he got right back to me with a reply. I volunteered to test versions for him if he needs a tester. I also just posted in the pdacorps thread.

I tried se_vga today and it decreased the frequency of lockups quite a bit. (I'll try to find a magnifying glass later tonight so I can play it...)

If anyone is having lock-up problems, try deleting _all_ saved games in the crossword folders (may be in multiple locations, depending on where you saved games) with file explorer. This seems to have solved the lockup problems I was having.
