Just an FYI; a post I made to PocketMatrix; running in landscape is pretty nice, though I've not found out how to exit menus in this mode.. it looks pretty good though :)

Here is my autoexec.cfg (keep your old one around, so you toggle between portrait with a rename..)

//PocketQuake Config by 999
//Modifed by Dan East
//http://www.pocketmatrix.com/pocketquake

echo "pocketmatrix.com/pocketquake"
crosshair "1"

//Quake's default _snd_mixahead default is 0.1, which results in interrupted, pulsating sound
//on a 206mhz iPaq. A value of 0.15 is required for smooth sound.
_snd_mixahead "0.15"

viewsize "100.000000"

vid_mode 1
in_autoyawrate 5

bind "JOY1" "+attack"
bind "AUX1" "menu_load"
bind "AUX2" "menu_save"
bind "AUX3" "impulse 10"
bind "AUX4" "togglemenu"
bind "AUX5" "togglemenu"
bind "AUX10" "impulse 10"
bind "AUX11" "impulse 10"
bind "AUX12" "impulse 7"
bind "AUX13" "impulse 2; impulse 3; impulse 4; impulse 5; impulse 6; impulse 8"
bind "AUX14" "+jump"
bind "AUX15" "+jump"
bind "AUX20" "impulse 7"
bind "AUX21" "impulse 2; impulse 3; impulse 4; impulse 5; impulse 6; impulse 8"
bind "AUX22" "impulse 255"
bind "AUX23" "impulse 9"
bind "space" "+jump"

bind "UPARROW" "+forward"
bind "DOWNARROW" "+back"
bind "LEFTARROW" "+moveleft"
bind "RIGHTARROW" "+moveright"

Oooh baby, Descent? Where to get it :)

I'll try the record button for PQ; thanks for the tip.. didn't try that; that maybe will make it playable. Man oh man :)

An FYI..

PocketQuake: Works great; see the config file I posted earlier, but works perfectly ocne oyu realize the side record button is menu-cancel. I just beat the first couple leels of Quake1 :)

Open TTD: Using the .mui file trick works great (or use ozVGA or SE_VGA); it definately can run in VGA mode .. the .mui or those VGA tools will let it run in true VGA and you just hit Configure on the main menu and pick 480x640 or 640x480 and away you go. Gorgeous.

Descent: Works well, but hard to play since it uses the portrait hardkeys for play.. if it had a tap-to-fire it'd be much better so one could use thumb to fire. Source is available, so perhaps it could be hacked up a touch.

Pocket SNES with open/gl mod is pretty nifty in landscape :)

What a good day in gaming for me :)

If you need help setting up the above, let me know..

Welcome skeezix,

Wherever i go (gp32x,zodiacGamer) there you are!

Welcome to the world of PPC, how are things impressing you after Palm ?

Forums for PPC arent quite as `friendly and informal` as gp32x`s, probly down to the higher age group of hardware owners but hopefully it will change......

We look forward (hopefully) to any forthcomming releases :approve:

I have 2 questions:

1. Can pocket quake be made to run 640x480? If yes, how?

2. Does pocket quake 2 work on the axim x50v?

(For me, its not "after Palm"; I use everything :) PoPC is definately a clunkier OS for sure, but is also more powerful in many respects. But lets not get into that ;)

PQ is 240x320 or 320x240 right now; I've been tempted to look into 640x480 mode as it'd look awesome; I dont' think anyone has built that yet.

Never tried PQ2; is PQ2 stable at all?

Quake 2 is just as stable but obviously you need a bit more horsepower but you`re x5 should more than be up for the task....................

So Have you tried PSX emulation yet ?

And Your right Windoze Mobile does kinda suck compared to palmOS but from a pure power perspective, ppc`s very nice :)

I tried pocket quake 2 but i get an initialization error each time i try to start it. I've tried w/ the tweaked gapi driver and without w/ no luck. This is in an X50V. Any ideas?

I almost hate to ask all this but... If most of these older games work w/ pocket dos might starcraft work? What a classic..

Thanks in advance

I doubt SC would work on Pocket DOS; too new, and I think it requires Win95 at least, not DOS..

nippyjun -- did you try the other enhanced driver? ie: picard/emulamers driver 1.11 lets you select which of the two you want to try and only 1 works with PQ1. Dunno about PQ2.

Where do you find Pocket Descent 1? I have the original Descent for PC and I'd really like to try this out!

You can find the existing Descent 1 port here:
http://www.bitsemantics.com/sideprojects/descent/

If I get anywhere with mine, I'll post a site up for it; ie: I hope to make it so tapping on the screen does firing, so you can fire with your thumb, or the like, soon.
