Okay all you emulator die hards. I love to use Morphgear for my most used and common ROMS. I would now like to know about using MAME ROMS on my x50v. If you have a x50v and play MAME ROMS please say what emulator you use and which one seams to give you the least grief or problems. It looks like there is iMAME, MAMEBOY, MAMECE and a few others. MAMEC3 was last updated 01-04-2003 which seams to be the most current one! Anything else out there more current than 2003?

On my PC I have the whole .87 ROM set I believe but I am yet to find an MAME PPC emulator worth using. They just don't support many games. :\

I use megamamece, and I have got the following .87 version of the roms working.
-Centipede
-Donkey Kong
-Donkey Kong Jr.
-Donkey Kong 3
-1942
-BurgerTime
-Crazy Kong
-Frogger
-Gyruss
-Jungle King (one of my favorite games, finally playable on x50v)
-Mr. Do
-Time Pilot
-Qix
-Zaxxon
The following load but don't fit well at all even in landscape
-Bezerk
-Wizard of Wor
These are the ones that I know work. What you can try to do is load the rom, look at the clones list, and see what runs. Most game run with the sound, but it is grainy at best, but you can here the distictive sounds that make Donkey Kong, what it is.
I guess with all this rambling, is that as long as the rom hasn't really changed, through all of the updates, it will run. Just experiment and see what happens. Again, playing Jungle King, is quite awesome, and while I have the Atari 2600 version as well, it is just not the same as the original. Good luck, took some time to find what runs. Sure there are more than I listed, just haven't tried them all yet.
Jungle King IS king! I love that game! I also use MAMEce, but I use MegaMamece. I got these going as well:
Kangaroo
Galaga
Congo Bongo(awesome game)
Q*Bert
Pacman
Ms.Pacman(sound a little screwy)
Moon Patrol(runs a little slow)
Dig Dug(playable)
Zaxxon
Xevious
Defender(you must change reset button in in-game menu, then reset)
Joust(same change as Defender)
Robotron(same change as Joust--this game really needs an 'auto-fire' option!)
MegaMamece is gr8, but need to be updated badly!

I suggest using Clrmame to clean your ROM collection. This will also make sure you're copying over compatible games.
I've had no luck getting Mame to run in true VGA. The screen borks up something terrible. If I had time to play around with the GAPI tweak I might get a result. Let me know if you have any luck.
[edit]
The keys/d-pad are all configurable. But I think there's a bug when it comes to enabling the settings. Everytime you load Mame after defining the keys the app seems to foget you've done this and revert to default settings. What you have to go is go back to the define keys screen (all your definitions will still be there), save the config and carry on.
Nice... been playing with flavors of MAME for years... suffice it to say I'm going to need to dig out ancient archive files to see if I can find more compatible ROMs.
Was able to load MM in default SE mode, and then once I did that, also under ozVGA... but when I hit Play, I end up with the screen shifting to the right 50% and wrapped around the edge :) But seems to work ok in 240x320 mode.
It's great that I can play games like galaga, mr. do, joust, q-bert and mario bros (my fave), but damn, this is pretty damn buggy. It's frustrating to see fun games like spy hunter and tapper run smoothly - but you can only see like 10% of the screen! I hate having to reset all the buttons for games like defender. And ofcourse the sound could be made to match the high quality of pocket snes or pocket nester.
Why did development for pocket pc MAME's come to a spectacular grinding halt in 2001? Dell and HP's new PPCs seem to be selling decently enough. Can't someone with a little bit of spare time just tweak the code a little bit so we can play higher-res games with gapi? Or maybe just a slightly better interface?
Techmaster is the person behind MegamameCE, and the last update was 2003 NOT 2001. I don't know why nothing has been done since, someone should pick up where he left off. Maybe Aaron Giles, the master of emulation could pick it up. That guy can fix anything, he is pure genius in emulation and programming. I'll send him an email and ask him for help. Maybe others could help me in asking? Here is his wonderful website:
Centipede
Crystal Castles
Joust
Mr Do (universal)
Punchout (loads but screen too small)
Qix (set 1)
Robotron (blue label)
Time Pilot
Dig Dug II (set 1)
Xevious
Zaxxon (set 1)
and then when I enabled clones, I got
Pacman
and a few others to run...
is there a way (edit the zips?) to have it go directly to the working clone version?
Alas I could not get any donkey kong (original or Jr), nor Galago to work, nor MsPacman

If they don't work (the games you mentioned), then you have the wrong roms. You need .36 final roms. I have gotten those titles to work.
The only issue I've found (apart from the fact it doesn't run in true-VGA) is that won't run vector games - so no Asteroids etc.
Other than that, it's excellent.
Mark.
Huh? Vector games DO work. I have the following working on my X50v:
Battlezone
Asteroids
Asteroids Deluxe
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Berzerk
Tempest
some others.
You got the wrong romset. Need .36 final roms. I am not sure how to use CLRmame Pro. I know there is a way to use any version romset and use CLRmame to convert to .36. Anyone?
