Sound for the Warcraft II port. (Wargus)

I have finally gotten sound to work in wargus for out ppc's. Since it caches all the sounds when you start the game you cant have all the sounds (like how you click on a unit and he can say up to 5-7 different things) now your stuck with only 1 for now (maby 2 later if it can handel it or a fix is made later).

Go to The Wargus Homepage and download the windows version (or whatever os your using) and install it. When you are almost done installing, it ask you to put the Warcraft 2 cd in so it can copy files. Do that and let it do its thing. Then when its all done go to where you installed wargus and you will notice its a spitting image of our ppc version. Just copy the sounds dir from the data dirrectory and put it in your ppc in its data dirrectory. Wamo all the sounds in less then 4 megs.

The next part is for the HUMAN sounds only. You will hear not sounds for your units (other than fighting sounds) if you play orc. I will make a sounds.lua file for the orc's in a bit.

Put the sounds.lua file the zip into both the scripts folder in the wargus dirrectory and in the data\scripts folder (not sure which one it uses so just replace them both)

Thats it. Now start a game and go into options and enable sound. Then enjoy warcraft II in almost completely perfict glory.

Be warned i havent fully tested these sounds so it may still crash. I will keep tweeking it to get it working more stable.

One thing I seam to notice that always crashes it is when I build an archer. Ill look into it and see if I can fix it. Still try it to see what its like.

Updated with the latest human sound.lua file. Give it a go with the old .exe's Seams to be more stable then the new ones out right now. Lets hope theres a fix in the near future.

Is someone able to post the sound-files, I only have the Battle-Net version and startagus doesn´t work with it!

where do the files go? I have the game files... they are all war files, and I dont really know where to put them... do they need to be expanded before moving them to the device?

EDIT: That was it! I installed wargus which then expanded all the files from the warcarft folder and moved them over... I have sounds!

tried the original sound script hoping that it would work, but no, crashed because of all the sounds... went back to the one above...

do exactly as i said above. let the windows wargus installer take all the files off the wc2 cd you have. It will be installed on your computer exactly like the install on your ppc. Then you just copy the sound folder from the data dirrectroy from your PC to your PPC and put it in the data dirrectory wherever you installed wargus on your ppc.

Okay, I looked at the .lua file you gave us and it looks like you are only loading the first instance of any sound so it takes like 4x less memory.. I have edited it for the Orc as well (both human and orc in one file.. is that a good idea?) and I'll post it here if it works in a couple of minutes.

Okay, I did a quick run and it appeared to work for Orcs, I edited in the same manner as you with only 1 sound file for the orcs.. if anyone's feeling lucky try it out

By the way, make sure to edit Preferences2.lua and put SoundOn() instead of SoundOff()

Stop asking for the sounds. You should own warcraft 2 to play it just like any other program. I dont know why wargus comes with most of the game already setup to play but the sounds are also copyrighted material. You will have to find a wc2 cd or go emule it or something.

It doesn't come with most of the game, the links to this forum are to a pocketpc binary of wargus WITH the warcraft 2 content in the archive. Heh. I'm sure the mods here will realize sooner or later there's some illegal copyrighted content they've been linking to. But then we could just attach the binaries and give people directions on how to copy the content from their desktop wargus install

thats why I dont feal comfortable posting up the sounds. To play this on your ppc you should need the original content. The best way to get it is get the cd, install it with the windows wargus and copy the content from that. Untill then your kinda outa luck. Not to be mean but i dont want the mod on me lol. I got you sound, but you need the files that make the sound heh.

Hmm, I'm going on a long trip tomorrow so I'll probably be playing Wargus all the way there... I'll tell you guys if the sounds patches in this thread make it crash less

I have the window installer and it doesn't install anything. Also i have the ziped file "human and orc sound", where do I put it? Does the sound ula file negate the need to use the window installer?
