Optimised version of Cube released

Hi,

Suprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. Oh well.

An optimised version of the Cube Engine is now available here:

You'll need the original Cube files:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/c...s.zip?download

And replace the original .exe with the optimised version.

For those who haven't seen it, Cube is a 3D engine that gives a very Quake-like experience (from a technical, rather than gameplay angle).

It's only compatible with the X50v. This version is well worth checking out. In my opinion it's actually properly playable now and there are some very good maps available.

I thought this requires 128 MB of RAM? Maybe the reqs have changed.

Hmm, never heard that before. Both the previous, and the optimised, build work fine on my standard X50v.

Unzip the files and copy them to your memory card or built-in storage. Don't forget to replace the original cube.exe with the optimised version

Its an old file i believe ? cube_2004_05_22

And it aint 0.0 faster then the origional if u ask me.

For some reason it's listed as that, but the actual date on the (unzipped) file March '05 whereas the original is dated Jan '05.

I don't understand why you're not seeing the speed increase. I've run both versions the difference is significant.

I still get around 9-11 fps on both versions....

OK - here's the skinny.

On the default map I'm getting 14-28fps. I'm running the A03 ROM and no GAPI tweak. The game is on my SD card and I've around 16.7Mb free before starting it. I'm also in true VGA mode under OZ_Vga (although based on the install of SE_VGA).

I can't think of any other details at the mo.

I have a03, 36 mb free mem and its on my sd and futher no tweaks.

FPS is 10-22

ya its not a whole lot better but there is a definite speed increase where it holds around 17fps instead of 7-10 on the old version (or so it seams) still needs more opto but other than that now its actually something capeabable of showing off a bit.
