I've ported Beats of Rage to Pocket PC .. will need testers soon :)

Edit: See down in the thread for download and install instructions, or just grab the zip file. Alpha 3 is here: http://www.codejedi.com/bor/binaries/borce003alpha.zip

Still pretty early on but seams to run pretty well. I just need to add a PAK-picker (There are nearly 100 some odd game mods for Beats of Rage, including the original Beats of Rage itself of course), and tune the controls a bit, and I'll get a quick alpha out to whoever wants it.

Heres some screenshots:

Screeny from Palm OS -- will look the same on Pocket PC:

woowoo :)

jeff

(And I know Tala will jump in ;) Once I get this working halfway well, I'll look into OpenGL/ES to smooth it .. so I'll bug you later ;)

Hey! Count me in! I have an Axim X50v and I love to play games. I've done some beta and alpha testings before so I have my Axim ready to hard reset whenever needed

Well, it won't be high res VGA or OPenGL to begin with.. Beats of Rage is a PC game that runs at 320x200, so running landscape with regular Pocket PC res is ideal (nice and fast, fills the screen, etc). For X50v you definately need the emulamer/picard GAPI hack though :) I'll worry about OpenGL to get VGA-smoothing later.. first just to get it out and see if it works for anyone besides me, then a round of updates to get it a little slicker, then get fancy :)

Everyone -- might as well go find yourself some BOR PAK files. ie: The main Beats of Rage website has the main BOR pak (some 50MB file ending with .pak in the filename), which is a nice overall game with great animation. Theres dozens of other BOR Mods around (all ending with .pak). I'll include a very small one (pictured above) since it has low rerquirements and is tiny (3MB or so), but this can run any of the BOR mods.

(BOR Mods usually come as PAK files, but they're often compressed into RAR files to keep their size down. Further, Dreamcast folks tend to distribute them as CD disk image ISOs, so you need ISOBuster to get the PAK file out of the ISO! But theres a few websites around which host the sensiblew PAK files .. so go looking :)

I've got some links on my BOR/palm webpage:

http://www.codejedi.com/bor/

I'll have to rebuild that page to be for Palm OS and Pocket PC soon :)

Probably; the way I operate is to release early and often .. keep people involved in things, so that I maximize input. ie: Developing in the back room for a year means you might be way off target.. but if you keep people busy from the onset, then you get feedback as you go, so you end up on target at the end.

What this means is first couple of versions may be unstable or suck, but maybe also will work perfectly :)

ie: First couple versions won't likely have sound, as theres some work I have to do for that yet.. but should be fully playable full screen on most Pocket PCs, so should be a blast right off the top :)

So with luck I'll post a first alpha tonight or tomorrow, and hopefulyl we can all have some fun :)

I wouldn't mind getting into some testing. I don't care if I have to hard reset my ax from time to time, as I use it mainly as a contacts/note taker device when I'm not home. Since that all syncs to my desktop when I arrive at home, I can afford to have to resync it from time to time.

I dount theres any risk .. crashing I'm sure, but nothign a pinhole reset won't fix. It doesn't write data out (aside from logging), so theres little to worry about.
