X50V and SLOW fish Tycoon

I've had my X50V a few weeks now and just got around to installing the stuff that other people use apart from me. I installed Fish Tycoon but it runs RALLY REALLY SLOWLY. I have tried different settings in Picards/Emulamer's Enhanced GAPI driver V1.11 but nothing seems to effect it. I meen my old Ipaq set to 200MHz battery saving using XCPUScalar runs at the correct speed, but this X50v running at 624MHz (and yes I've checked it was at 624 in the power settings) runs at a fraction of the pace. I just want to know if any experienced people have a solution for me :).

Thanks

I suppose it isn't working in VGA?
I had experienced some major slowdowns with QVGA programs. That's why I try to use only VGA supporting software.

Nope, thats not the problem. Just been to my perents where my dad has an Ipaq 4700 (also VGA) and fish tycoon runs flawlessly on there just like it does on my Ipaq2210.

This is getting ridiculous, I have a fair few games/apps that are like slideshows on this X50v. things like fish tycoon,Xonix and SereneScreen Marine Aquarium PPC run like slide shows on this X50v but perfectly on my Old Ipaq2210 and my dads Ipaq4700. Can anybody shed ANY light onto this for me as I have tried ALL combinations of Picards/Emulamer's Enhanced GAPI driver V1.11 but they still run like slide shows.

I have the same issue, however, I just figured this was the way the game was made to be played... =/...

Have you tried installing one of the programs after a hard reset to see if something else you've installed is causing problems? Lots of today plugins will drag the system down in a heartbeat. Personally, I haven't had any issues with FishTycoon myself.

yep, I tried a hard reset and installing fish tyvoon and the same thing happens. I tried a hard reset then installing the tweaked GAPI drivers then fish tycoon and tried different combinations of settings in the tweaked gapi drivers.

Motionmind have you seen fish tycoon running on anything else other than an X50v ? just checking as it might seem normal until you try on a machine that plays it properly.

I think you jinxed me because I went to play the other day and it's slow. Do you have A03 installed, because mine was faster with A02. I can't think of anything else I've installed since then.

Yes, my X50v came with A03 installed. I have not tried any other version.

I think it's something with A03, because it ran well when I used A02.

Now here's the strange thing. I got a replacment X50V today (bad connections on headphone jack) SAME hardware revision (A03) same ROM (A03) and did a backup and then hard reset and cleared the BIS on both of them and only installed fish tycoon. Now they are both cradled and both set to 624MHz and the new one plays fish tycoon normally and the old one plays like a slideshow. Also noticed that when the old one was switched on, the screen would show some red vertical lines for a split second before turning on. This new one feels alot snappier than the old one. So I guess there was more than just the headphone jack wrong with the origional one.

Someone posted about this problem over at the Astraware website. Kieren, one of the technical support wizards, had this to say:
This is unfortunatley a known issue with the current version of Fish Tycoon on VGA devices, and one which LDW do plan to fix in the next update.

The cause of the slowdown is because Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, as well as adding support into the operating system for VGA screens, also includes some routines to help display applications designed for the "standard" QVGA (Quarter VGA, or 240x320) resolution on the larger screens.

Unfortunately, these default scaling routines are not designed for gaming, and so tend to result in the game running much more slowly than it was designed to, as you've seen with Fish Tycoon.
Most often, developers need to implement their own scaling systems to get the speed they need, but it can sometimes be a little tricky and time consuming to do.

It may be worth dropping support@ldw.com a mail to see if they can give you an idea of when this issue is likely to get fixed, but I do know they're working on another big project at the moment, so unfortunately it could yet be a little while!
.

Hope this helps.

That doesn't explain why the game runs PERFECTLY on my dads Ipaq 4700(VGA) device. and it runs preeety good on this replacement X50v. It's still a little slower but at least it's not like playing a slide show anymore. But thanks for the reply though.

I just got a replacement Axim as well because of corrupted BIS issues, but I have yet to install Fish Tycoon again. Hopefully I'll do that tonight.

The only thing different is that the first X50v came from Holland and the second came from Ireland.
