:realmad:
Maybe this is just sour grapes but I stumbled across this website http://www.gameloft.com/
and thought I had found game nirvana only to discover these beautiful, gorgeous games that I would eagerly pay to play are only available for cell phones?!? What's that about?
Anybody come across games of this caliber for us PPC users? This company seems to be doing some serious ports that I just haven't seen happening on our end. I mean, the Rainbow Six series, Brothers in Arms  How come we don't have ports of this quality? Is it the Java?
Anyway, I'm heartbroken, jealous and rambling but I sure wish I could play games like these listed on my Ax 30h.

I looked at Rainbow Six it looks like something for gameboy. I would rather have somebody port Rainbow six 3 for pocket pc, and have it just like playing it at the computer.
Justin
I'm just miffed that it exist at all but not available for the PPC market. Being an avid Rainbow Six fan, I'd settle for a port that looked like a GBA game than what we have currently which is "nothing".
I would like to see as many good PC games ported to our world since that would make them even more useful, i.e. play your favorite PC game on your PPC - that would be way cool. Splinter Cell? Ghost Recon? The aforementioned Rainbow Six series going back to Raven Shield? All top sellers in the PC world but non-existent in our world?
I read the FAQ from the company and they said they stopped making ports for the PPC for some reason(s) they did not disclose.
Where is the profit maximizer Microsoft when you need them? You would think they would be leading the charge to port games to PPC just like with their XBox console. I don't think Bill Gates would mind having all the top games played on all versions of his company's software/hardware.
I'm just green with envy!

They probably stopped porting the games to PPC because there wasnt enough people buyin it... we have a huge ppc population here but I think overall we dont have enough people for them to consider it profitable enough to want to make more for us.
Either that, or the games are java based, which there seems to be horrible support for on the PPC. I've had problems left and right when working with java, though I'd love to get it going for some personal learning (i.e. I want to learn how to program java, have the thing work on my PC and my PPC exactly the same, which is the whole reason for having java).
Oh yeah very true... java on the PPC is pretty difficult to figure out. I can get those midlets running okay with that IBM thing... but I cant figure out how to run most java apps other than the ones they give as samples, so I guess all we need is a easy to install and use java virtual machine..
That's the only thing I can figure it must be the Java. But still, MS should work on that. I'd be first in line to purchase these games. But notice they have a simplifed Madden for Palm. All I'm asking is why can't they do the same for PPC? All we get is a gazillion of those wimpy solitaire games.

You have to realize that the Pocket PC market isn't huge. A game that sells 10,000 copies is considered a major success. In the console and desktop game market, 10K copies is considered a failure.
Popular phone games, on the other hand, sell thousand's of copies each day at low cost (via subscription or individual sale). That is why you'll find many major IPs brought to the cellular market that will never find their way to the Pocket PC.
Pocket PC Studios is unquestionably the leader in bringing big name titles to the Pocket PC - our lineup for 2005/2006 includes Europa Universalis, Jagged Alliance, Disciples and Warlords III. Other development studios are starting to follow our lead and testing the IP market. TetraEdge and Astraware are both examples of this with their adventure game ports.
What it all boils down to is return on investment. A small studio can create high quality PDA games and make a living. Larger companies don't see this as a viable opportunity and instead focus on cell phones which has a huge potential user base. We approach it a little differently by creating PDA games as well as DS titles. As long as the Pocket PC market continues to support our works by purchasing our titles we will continue to put them out. :)

Not true, Madden is available for the PPC...It is greeeat!!!
Oh, and PPC Studios...You guys rock! If I had a DS, I would buy your games! :D
PPC Studios: I know this is off topic, but any chance you'll be porting Ancient Evil to the DS? I love my Ax, but that game would be so sweet on my Nintendo DS as well :)
It's nice to hear from PPCStudios, it's truly wonderful you folks took the time to respond.
But my problem is i'm not really interested in role playing/turn based strategy/fantasy games and I was just lamenting the lack of other types of name brand games available. I wish there were more options for PPC gamers who want a little more bite.
