Quake 3 source code

Quake 3 source code has been released.. apparently the graphics routines use OpenGL.. hopefully someone will try and do a PPC port optimized for 2700g OpenGL ES..

I'm surprised at this - source is only usually released after a games online community is dead... The cod players had better be prepared for the amount of hacks that are going to be produced by this...
Still, might be worth someone taking a look at... a port of q3 could lead to many other games..

Until Dan East releases his Quake OpenGL|Es port and his new build of Quake 2... Quake 3 might have to wait...
Though Window Mobile 5.0 w/Direct3D... who know's we may be able to get a port alot faster than what i think !

It definately do-able - The sega dreamcase had the same chip (albeit slightly faster) as the Axim, and that run it fine.. And also I think Intel Demoed the 2700g for PDA by showing quake3 running on it..
Is Dan actually making a new version of PQ2? I thought he had stopped working on all of them?

It would probably be easier to use OpenGl-ES than Direct3D-mobile because Quake 3 uses OpenGL so I imagine the functions would be more similar.

I thought the PowerVR MBX and PowerVR2 were equal? I haven't looked at the specs but a chip that was dubbed a "dreamcast on a chip" included a PowerVR MBX chip. From what I've seen they both claim 3 million polygons/second.

I thought the dreamcast version had more pixel pipes/ vertex shaders? It definately had higher clock speeds..

Can anyone confirm that Dan East is actively working on this?

I doesn't seem like anything has happened on the Quake2 front since his original effort.
