Owners of Pocket PC’s with the great Intel 2700G graphics accelerator chip certainly want more and more games that make use of the excellent features of this wonder. This is why I’ve jumped right on the new, V5 version of Pocket-Jongg 3D as soon as I’ve heard of it.
I didn’t have high expectations because, in general, board games don’t really make use of the 3D capabilities of the 2700G. A well-known example of these games is Jackpot Casino 1.01 (see my review here).
Fortunately, Pocket-Jongg is definitely better than Jackpot Casino. You can tilt the board, zoom (with the invisible vertical slider) and slide it (with the also invisible horizontal one) and the title animation is pretty good too. In addition, the game uses high resolution, which is certainly welcome on Pocket PC devices. Finally, the game runs in both Landscape (see screenshot here; in this screenshot, the Frame per second (FPS) value is also displayed, showing the 3D speed of the game) and Portrait (see screenshot here), depending on the current system-level orientation), which is good news for anyone sensitive of the problems of the uneven polarization of the Axim screens in Landscape mode.
Important note
If you want to download the trial from Handango, do not follow the link provided on the official homepage of the game because it’ll result in an internal server error. Use this link instead (and thank my knowledge of the HTTP protocol for making it work ;-) ).
Verdict
If you have a Dell Axim x50v/x51v, give it a try – you’ll most probably like it.
Note that...
The game also supports the ATI 2D chip. I haven’t had the chance to test it with ATI-enabled Pocket PC’s. I don’t think the 3D animation, especially on VGA devices, will be as fast on them as on a 2700G device.
Downloaded the game but I think I need ActiveSync 4.x to install it. It will not install using AS 3.8. I had a similar problem with another game and the developer had to re-compile it to install with AS 3.8.

If you have problems installing via ActiveSync, try using a CAB file (if available). You just copy these files directly to your device and install them from there.
I just updated to include Meneisyys' review of the jongg game, and the new pocketGBA version. Sorry things were late. Will try and be more on the ball!

These are two different things. Quake 3 Arena is a multiplayer conversion of a PC game. But quakemobile is a singleplayer quake game. The reason why you could run Quake 3 Arena is probably because it has a nifty system of memory adjusting - you can notice a short message "Patritioning memory" when you start this game.

But I can't run Quake3 arena on my x51v . While Quake Mobile runs smoothly. Because I only have 28-30MB RAM.
Hey this list should be updated, for the first time in a while. Call of Duty 2 is going to be released sometime in the near future, which will be 2700g-enhanced.

updated. Thanks guys. Unfortunately for us, it appears 3d (a la 2700g) PPC gaming has died a pretty bad death. If only there were hundreds of thousands of axims out there, it might get some momentum.

Heya Biohzrd, there's one game that's still under developement, but it's gonna support 2700g acceleration. It's a port of DoomGL, called DoomGLES. Link's here http://kokak.free.fr/DoomGLES.htm .
