Well I bought this and installed it onto my SD card, but startup is taking a long time.

Is that normal? I have 30mb Ram free.

Well it takes long time to install but the game doesn't take too long to load.

The On screen buttons feel a bit small

Well i have been playing for the past few minutes.

First Impressions - Awesome Graphics, this is Accelerated Quake in all its glory, blows away anything on the PPC to date.

Sound = It's Quake!

Gameplay = QUAKE!

Control = Yeah these need a bit of work. The buttons do feel small. Also the turning with the D-Pad thing is weird as the D-Pad isnt very responsive. We should be able to use the Stylus to aim and the d-pad to move forwards or backwards. Straffing is okay, but then again it feels weird. I liked Pocket Quake's control scheme in landscape mode better. Let's hope they fix this!

basically - they need to make the control buttons bigger, and add stylus support for aiming. Controls also need to be more configurable with the above mentioned options.

Otherwise this is a MUST BUY for any axim x50v!

The music from quake was I believe a regular audio CD (redbook format). It would be nice to have music though! I am sure something with mp3s can be worked up.

The music files of Quake 1 were on the CD as CD audio files... Music composed by NIN's Trent Razor that's why you see the NIN logo on all boxes with nail gun ammo... I don't know how you could get them to the memory card.

BTW the textures feel very washed out at places and the lighting makes some textures that should be almost white as low contrast grey.

Okay, the default control scheme sucks...

Also the lack of a crosshair isn't fun either.

So i made some modifications.

In the directory of the game there is another directory called ID1 where the .pak files reside, make an autoexec.cfg file in the directory using notepad or word or whatever and put the following 3 options in it:

crosshair "1"
bind "AUX4" "impulse 9"
bind "AUX5" "god"

You can change the aux variables to different keys, but that makes my life much easier as now you can have all weapons by pressing the Today button( the one with the small house on it), and god mode by pressing the recorder button on the side of the axim.

I also changed around the soft keys on the screen to the following:

Orange = Change Weapon
Red = Attack
Green=sidestep
blue=jump
gold=look up
silver=look down

makes it much better control wise :)

enjoy!

You see here a good example of how the colours feel washed off

I just got a Private Message from a special person who noticed my review. I might do X50v game reviews from now on!

The review from GameSpot should come out this week while we're all at CTIA and from what they've been telling me, it should be a pretty good review.

Well, just wanted to pop by and say thank you.

Kind regards,
