well if you DO buy it, post in this thread.

I want to know how it is, it's $25 so it better be worth it :)

Also tell us if it allows portrait mode. I rather have small screen than twist my hands with pain to access te d-pad and buttons on the same side.

Well I just talked to one of the people over at Pulse Interactive over IM.

He told me he would post here on the forum with more information about the game, soon!

I'm not seeing anything about it being accelerated with the X50v's 2700g chip. I did find one mention of using an ATI chip -- Here -- "The first 3D-enabled mobile phones will hit the market this summer, with QUAKE Mobile
available as an embedded game on the first of these handsets to be released by a Korean
manufacturer in July.

I'm not getting my hopes or wallet up until I see someone purchase this and see it actually using the 2700g. From the screenshots, the textures look horrible. I know you can download a quake game for FREE from some site, but you have to purchase the Quake 1 game and extract the pak files. I'm guessing that's a LOT cheaper than $25.

edit- I found this listed -

"Fortunately, on either of the two as-yet unannounced phones on which Quake Mobile will be embedded, you'll be able to use any and all mods written for the PC version."

It's looking more and more like a Mobile phone game?

-edit2- OK, if you click on the requirements s ection at handango --
Compatible Device List

* Dell Axim X50v

Hopefully I'm wrong?

This is very intiguing.
It must use the 2700g as its only for the Axim50v?

But where did it come from? There was no fanfare in the pages of Aximsite.

If you DO buy it, please report back how it plays. From the reviews I read there is NO strafing. Bleh! Also, it said a constant 25fps, give us some details on whether this ancient game is worth $25!

Also the blurb doesn't emphasise if its VGA. The screenshots look a little blurred / blocky.

anyone find this article

The game has already started finding fans. Gamespot named it the ''Best Mobile Game" in their E3 2005 Editor's Choice Awards, declaring themselves "shocked and awed by the quality of Quake Mobile" and claiming that it "stuck to our ribs like homecooked meatloaf."

Quake Mobile
Review done by Da1writer

Speculation... wonder... many things go through Pocket Pc owner's minds when trying to determine if a game is really an Axim X50v exclusive. Is it downright impressive or a load of horse crap. There's the downright nasty like Enigmo, which chugged down to almost unplayable. Then there's the drop dead beautiful like Geo Rally EX. Usually the visually impressive and fun games are done by groups of people who have had experience and learned to do better with every game release and every chance they got. Then there are some who just pop out of nowhere and astound us with something we weren't expecting. Cube was one... but without a constant and very stable framerate, it wasn't able to gain the full recognition it deserved. Recently though... a new face has shown up...

Quake Mobile is another masterpeice in showing that porting over programs from PC to Pocket PC is Downright easy, especially if you got help from the same people who made it. That's right, you can do your own homework in finding this out but ID Software themselves shook hands with Pulse Interactive Inc. and wanted to see a true First Person Shooter on Pocket PC done respectifully and done right! Let's see Dan East do that!

Dan East was the first one to port any of the Quakes to Pocket PC, which is quite a feat I must say. After a few years of fooling around with Quake, Pocket Quake was in Playable form, although some still had/have problems making it work properly.
The Readme file was easy to follow but not easy enough for those who never played much with their Pocket PC. Dan East then shrugged his shoulders and decides to port Quake 2, which he did but it was so unstable with so many devices... was there a reason to make Pocket Quake 2. Anyways, he could have made Quake a much better accessed program if he had... help.

Ever Since the Axim X50v came out, being the first to actually have a 3d accelerated Gfx chip, rumors started flying out of the mouths of everyone that Dan East has/was planning to release a Pocket Quake OpenGL|es version. Months passed and no such update ever came to be. Thats when Pulse Interactive Inc. decided to stand up and take the challenge! After joining up with ID Software of the matter, Demo's of Quake Mobile on the Axim X50v were shown at this years E3 2005. Many were impressed with Quake Mobile's gorgeous graphics and it's easy pick up and play controls.
Even Gamespot named it the ''Best Mobile Game" in their E3 2005 Editor's Choice Awards, declaring themselves "shocked and awed by the quality of Quake Mobile" and claiming that it "stuck to our ribs like homecooked meatloaf."

Now i've talked for a bit and your probably wondering... where's the good stuff of the review, you haven't convinced me yet to buy this game! Well let's go down the line shall we...

1.Graphics- 4 out of 5
These graphics are truly outstanding and should be noted up there with Geo Rally EX! I'm truly impressed with what I am seeing before my eyes. The speed runs between 20 - 30 fps, which might seems low yet it's very robust and still fast enough to kick ass in!
2.Sound- 3 out of 5
Why did I rate the sound so low... well I wish this game had it's music... thats all. Otherwise all the sound effects are crisp and set the mood well in making you jump when some four legged beast is right beside you.
3.Gameplay- 5 out of 5
No matter what version of Quake I play, I absolutely love it! It's a blast, seeing chunks of your enemies as you shoot them with a rocket launcher, pure satisfaction! With the usual puzzle elements (key cards and such) and secrets to find, it's a game to sit down for a while, trying your best to soak up everything the qame is giving you!
4.Value- 5 out of 5
Did I mention it comes with the full pak of Quake! No searching for your old CD, it's included with the Download... More Proof that ID Software is behind Pulse Interactive Inc. 100%! 32 levels and for those that purchase it, the expansion paks will be coming out soon free of charge as well! Did I forget to say that there will be Multiplayer Gaming! Play against your friends over Bluetooth or local wireless connections (Wifi) Quake Mobile Expansion packs. Both original PC expansion packs will be available for download before long! Things can't get any better, especially since a cheat menu will be coming soon too. Tons of great extras await for the ones that Purchase Quake Mobile!
5.Tilt- 3 out of 5
Controls are easy to pick up but i only wish they implemented on screen turning with the stylus. They do have onscreen commands aka Tomb Raider style, so put out those thumbs, it is truly comfortable to play this game! It's also a whooping 52mb file if you want the full game and might be a bit hairy for those with small storage cards. I also hope a cheat menu will come VERY soon, I want God Mode and all my weapons!

So the overall Score...

4 OUT OF 5 Stars!

It may be a bit of a huge tug on some people's wallets ($25.00 alone, use coupon code SEPTSAVINGS to bring price to $21.24 at Handango) but it's well worth every cent of what you pay for, I highly recommend this game to be bought right away :approve: !

This version of Quake rquires:
1. A PocketPC or SmartPhone enabled with Open GL-ES 3D rendering support.
2. Pocket PC 2003 OS.
3. ActiveSync.

So no this is not a 2700g exclusive...

Well it takes long time to install but the game doesn't take too long to load.

The On screen buttons feel a bit small

Well i have been playing for the past few minutes.

First Impressions - Awesome Graphics, this is Accelerated Quake in all its glory, blows away anything on the PPC to date.

Sound = It's Quake!

Gameplay = QUAKE!

Control = Yeah these need a bit of work. The buttons do feel small. Also the turning with the D-Pad thing is weird as the D-Pad isnt very responsive. We should be able to use the Stylus to aim and the d-pad to move forwards or backwards. Straffing is okay, but then again it feels weird. I liked Pocket Quake's control scheme in landscape mode better. Let's hope they fix this!

basically - they need to make the control buttons bigger, and add stylus support for aiming. Controls also need to be more configurable with the above mentioned options.

Otherwise this is a MUST BUY for any axim x50v!
