Hmm...Let me clarify my question. Is the combat ala MOO2 where you go into a turn based combat screen for ship to ship combat, or does it just get resolved automatically for you? Warring Nations get me a little peeved with this since the screenshots made you THINK you had some control over the outcome, but it's acutally auto resolved with some animations that made you think you had some control.

I have not seen any screenshots of ship to ship combat so I'm assuming it's just auto-resolved and glossed over.

I don't have the game (yet) but this is from their web-based instructions:

Quote:
When you land on a planet held by your opponent or by the aliens, however, victory is determined by a comparison of each side's Combat Strength, with ties going to the defender.

The results of the combat will be displayed. If you win, the planet is yours. If you lose, your attacking force is wiped out, but sometimes not before they send back a report on the planet indicating the level of defenses, technology, and resource production.

Other forms of combat include planet-based rocket and ion beam attacks and sabotage missions.

*Note: if you successfully invade a planet with advanced technologies such as missile bases, planetary shields or scanners, those items are destroyed in the battle. Advanced resource production facilities are not destroyed, however, with the increased production facility remaining as the spoils of victory.
So you do not control combat.

The game is very well explained here.

hmm...i just read it more thoroughly. They don't mention it, but apparently, there isn't any ship to ship combat!!! WTH? I guess in their universe ships just pass each other by in space.

The ships you build are just landing ships that you aim at enemy planets. C'mon...this PPC's faster than the machine I used to play Master of Orion on...use it!

Ah, I understand now... As I said before you can blast enemies with missiles and bio-rockets, etc but no, it's not like you have control during combat. Once you launch a missile it's on the way turn-based. You can track it but it's not like in Tradewinds, for example, where you enter combat in an almost third-person shooter-type interface. There's no ship-to-ship combat........ yet. You ready that right. The reason for my delay in answering your question is that I sent an e-mail to the address on the website (under contact) about combat and they claim they will be adding actual ship-to-ship combat in an add-on or upgrade that will also include some new galaxies and bad guys too. I like the game as is but would love the additional combat features. (Crossing fingers)

Given all the installation bugs and future (unfinished?) features, it sounds like this was kicked out the door to make some money asap.

I purchased it yesterday (with a 20% off Aximsite discount code :approve: ). I had no installation or other bugs and am enjoying the game greatly. I've been wanting a MOOII clone for the Pocket PC for a while and this is as close as it gets, for now.

Could it be improved? Yes. I can think of several interface tweaks I'd like to see. But its highly playable and addictive as is, and with all due respect, it does not feel just "kicked out the door."

I do hope that future patches/improvements are provided free to those of us supporting the game out of the gate. That remains to be seen. For now, though, I'm hooked and thinking "just one more turn."

I forget, what code do you enter for the Aximsite discount? (I couldn't find the thread where I saw the announcement)

Sorry it took so long to reply but I couldn't find it until now.

This worked for me:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=91414

Enjoy. The game is nowhere near as polished as, say, Warfare Incorporated, but so far its pretty good. I've played through about three games... the interface could use some tweaking. I am actually making a list of interface improvements that I will suggest to the dev. More feedback on some things is needed. Other than that, no crashes, and fairly addictive.

Yes. I went out and bought it (I was too impatient to wait :) ). I played two or three games and ran into several bugs that I've already contacted the developer about.

He told me they're working on fixing them (there should be an update sometime this week), and that the current beta testers haven't been doing a very thorough job. So, of course, now I'm one. Just for curiosity, what suggestions are you going to make?

Sorry I couldnt get you that code in time .

I too just contacted the devs about a serious bug I had not seen before this morning -- playing as Player #4 doesn't work: the turn counter does not advance, and opponents do nothing. They responded very quickly (within an hour) that they will look at the save game files I sent them.

What bugs did you have?

The other suggestions I will make to them involve better interface feedback. Sometimes you try to build something you can't afford, you are told that, other times not. I would like to see research costs, and an update on progress of research.

And finally, I would like to be able to save and load in-game.

Hopefully the patch coming this week will address some of this.

I saw that bug, too. I actually just sent off a whole list of bugs and suggestions to the developers. Probably the most important ones are the following:

-The bio-hazard rockets do nothing to the enemy troops but will destroy yours if you land on the planet and don't immediately de-toxify. Same thing with the ion beam: it doesn't do anything to enemy troops.

-After developing planetary shield, I have not been able to build any of them. I have to wait to build planetary shields until I've researched the plasma shields.

Have you seen different results than these? I'm just wondering if there are cross-platform differences. If so, that will probably make the problems much more difficult to resolve.

I had noticed the planetary shield thing but then forgot about it. Good catch. I vaguely recall being able to build the shield only on my home world, not captured planets. But I could be wrong, maybe it doesn't work at all.

I had not noticed the rocket/beam bug. I never check stats of an opposing planet after an attack. An even better catch.

They've been very quick to respond so far and hopefully the patch will clear up much of this.

Another poster in this thread said this looked "pushed out the door" and I disagreed. But now I'm thinking, perhaps he was right . Still, its a fun game at its core and we'll see how these kinks are resolved. I'm hopeful based on their responsiveness. I may send them a detailed list tonight of interface tweaks I'd love... as they prepare the patch.

Meantime, have you seen that the game also includes the original PC game? It has no AI, just an email game. Looks interesting.

I agree, it is very fun at it's core :) .

Whether or not it was 'pushed out the door', what will either make it or break it for me is whether they live up to their word or not. I don't want to be told that an updated version is coming out this week with fixes to all these patches, and then not have it happen, or have it postponed. It will make me sorry I spent $20 for it.

I saw that there was a PC version, but didn't install it, so I don't know anything about it.

I've developed an allergy to unfinished games ever since Tribes 2 for the PC. I refuse to support developers/publishers who use the unsuspecting customer as their beta tester.

BUT. I have to say that the game is intruiging, and if it's ever patched, and has decent ship to ship combat, I'd buy it.

Interesting. I haven't experienced the same problems and I have both an Axim X3 (for sale soon) and X50. The only issue I had was having to disable a Today plugin on the X50 when I play the game but on both devices all alien tribes always expand and grow their empires and never seem to make the same moves twice. I played in all of the galaxies too. Now I did experience the planet shield issue--looking forward to the new patch. Still a great game.
