High pitched noise from Seidio 2500 mount...

I've been using my Seidio 2500 mount with my Axim X30 for about a month now. I did not have the audio cable that went between the Axim and the mount, so I never had a chance to test out the speaker.

Well, the guys at seidio were nice enough to send me a cable for a few $$$. But now when I attach the cable from the mount to my Axim, a constant high pitched squealing nouse comes out of the speaker at all times. If I turn my Axim off, this noise goes away.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am experiencing this in a slightly different way. I have a tomtom mount that worked fine on my previous car, but in my new car it emits a wine thru the radio. I believe it's my car's jack at fault, not the mount. There may be filters for this, or maybe we need new cigarette lighter jacks put in.

Does the noisy change frequency with engine speed? If so, then this is a fairly common problem caused by the car's alternator. They sell filters to help with that. If they do not help, then a new alternator is the only fix.

I don't notice any change in the noise at different engine speeds. Of course, when driving, road noise tends to drown the sound out quite a bit, so it would be hard for me to say for certain whether or not the noise changes in pitch or intensity.

It's the same sound in 2 both my Saab and my roomate's Volvo.

Does anyone know the amount of power supplied to the seidio mount by the car adapter? It would be nice to test if this sound exists when outside of the car environment, by powering the mount using a power adapter I have lying around the house.

It may be the fluorescent backlight that is getting into the radio. Try lowering the brightness setting, or dimming the screen completely. If it turns out to be the backlight, there's not much you can do except to relocate the PPC. You could also check the wiring into your radio to make sure that any shielded wires are properly grounded. Shielding is supposed to protect against stray signals like that, but if not properly grounded it can let it through.

The radio is not involved at all. I'm referring to the Seidio 2500 mount with the built in speaker. The noise comes from the built in speaker.

I did try your advice with regards to the backlight, and lo and behold, dimming the backlight to the absolute minimum brightness completely eliminated the noise! So it appears you are right about interference from the backlight.

Of course, I'm not able to move the PPC away from the speaker, since we're talking about the speaker in the Seidio mount. Is there some sort of shielding that I am missing from within my mount?
