PPC GPS vs Garmin C330
I'm considering getting a bt338 and either ocn5 or iguidance...will run me about 250ish with a mount i guess. But i can get a garmin c330 for about 500ish...so its twice as expensive...not sure which way to go...

With the c330 i don't have to worry about loading maps, have a lot more poi's, and its "designed" for GPS only.

With ppc i will spend less, but have something that looks more like a contraption...also not sure if it is more likely to have problems with memory, software crashing, etc.

Are there any other pluses and minuses of either solution? For example, I was thinking that with the PPC, i could throw the bt338 in my pocket and use the ppc for hiking, or walking around big cities.

Which would be easier to travel with (ie, flying to NY and renting a car and using it in the car).

I know this is a bit of apples and oranges, but you know where i'm going. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

i can see there are poeple who would prefer device with out-of-the-box convenience even though it is a lot pricier than the former

this is an axim forum and for us it is no brainer as to our choice

you compare c330 with bt338 which has sirfIII chipset?

fyi the latest garmin unit has finally caved in to the use of more sensitive sirfIII chipset

i strongly doubt if c330 can deal with the high rise in new york (any current user of c330 would be appreciated)? i will have confidence with bt338 being operational in new york.

daniel
ps i have sirfIII chipset cf gps

jefflins I am currently using the streetpilot c330, sure its form factor is nothing to rave about but it gets the job done admirably.
I have had the c330, Ique M5 and i just returned the axim x51v (now before you axim lovers jump on me, I think the x51v is a great handheld, I just needed it for a navigator and not a PDA).

While driving on I-270 (MD state) we have local and express lanes, the x51v with the dell gps kept telling me to go to the local lane take an exit and immediately get back on the interstate and then back to the express lane. THis kept going on in a cycle till I got off 270 and got on the DC beltway. Note that I actually needed to keep driving on 270 straight till I got on 495, no exit nessecary but the dell GPS

This is extremely annoying, idotic and at 75 mph unsafe. once on smaller roads its navigation was good and recalculation was faster than the c330. Also the dell has a faster satellite acquisition time comared to the c330.

The c330 has consistently performed well and one major adavntage is that its preloaded with all of US. My suggestion ..if the x51v is primarily going to be used as a navigator then youre better off with the c330.

note that i didnot once mention the ique m5 ...its a piece of junk.. good at nothing.

Prices (shipping taxes included) - The c330 and IqueM5 cost me in the high 500s and the X51v + dell gps (non BT) mid 500s

agian as a handheld I must again say the x51v is very good, and I have no experience using the x51v with other GPS bundles.

email me at nrg10k@yahoo.com if you have questions.
