Best BT receiver for X51v?
What's the best Bluetooth receiver for the X51v? FWIW I plan to use TomTom 5 and memory-map software and prefer devices with replaceable batteries. Your opinions would be most welcome!

I think everyone here is in love with their Globalsat BT338. Replaceable battery, SirfStar III chipset, low price...what more can you ask for?

Hi all, I'm new here.
I just ordered my x51v, and thinking about GPS receivers. Currently I have these choices locked down:
a) BT339 (functionally exactly the same as BT338, but currently on promotion on BuyGPSNow.com and like $30 cheaper than BT338)
b) Haicom HI-303III (Compact Flash type, about $13 cheaper than BT339)

Being both utilize SiRF Star III chipset and WAAS enabled out of box, the good things about 303III are because no more battery charging of the receiver (such that I'll just need 1 charger for x51v when used in car). However, on BuyGPSNow.com, I've read some users of 303III reported insufficient power supply at the CF slot (They are NOT Axim users though), and even the SalesTeam mentioned "CF-based GPS receiver is bit more challenging for PDAs because of the nearby EM interferrence from HDD, WiFi module, BT module".

So, my question is, have you guys ever used CF-based (303III or not) GPS receiver and how's the performance when used in car? The foldable antenna of 303III looks promising but I wonder if the real better GPS performance will be from BT-based receiver (coz I can place the BT receiver on the dash, versus the CF card plugged inside the PDA, and placed in front of the A/C vent mount, of which the vertical top maybe blocked by the car's rooftop)?

I love my Holux GPSlim 236. Was close call with the BT338 but I chose slightly smaller size and added port flexibility over the longer-life battery. In the car, you can plug it in, and when my PDA lasts for longer than 10 hrs I'll worry more about my GPS battery life. (Or carry a spare.)

but BEWARE. I really want to upgrade to TomTom 5 and use it with my new X51V too, but TomTom is being very HushHush about when they plan to issue WM5-compatible version.

"There is no expected time for an update of such feature. If you have any further questions, please contact us."

Lots of other GPS programs also seem to have WM5-compatibilty issues...

Another vote for the Holux 236. I love my Holux 236 and in additional to my Axim, I also have it hooked up to the laptop along with iGuidance.

It works flawlessly.....

Yeah, I have the Holux 236 too. Really impressed with it. Have it running on my Palm T3 with TomTom5 right now. Going to use it with my new 51v. But first want to get a Martin Fields screen protector before I start using it.

I've never heard of a BT339 and don't see it anywhere on the buygpsnow.com website. Do you have a link? I'd steer clear of CF GPS just because I've heard of a few incompatibilities. With a BT GPS you don't need any special drivers so they should work right out of the box and they're compatible with future devices as well.

TT5 is working great on my x51v...it's just the desktop installer that's not compatible. You can find the installation instructions here. I've found that the 3D mode seems to run faster on my x51v than it did on my x50v.

its the GPS listed in the Christmas Package:

Under "In The Box" it says "OnCourse BT-339 Bluetooth GPS receiver and Rechargable Battery."

I see, so it's basically a BT338 with the OnCourse name slapped on it (and an extra number )?

I got a Haicom 303cf when I got my X5. I added Mapopolis and place the Cf card in. Ran no problems. I have been thinking of getting the HAiCOM Bluetooth Slipper™ HI-401BT (I have a compatable version). But I am wonder if the BT will have any problems with the X51v.

I already have a couple of GPS units, but I need this one. So tiny and so...chrome.... It mostly just looks awsome, so it could really suck.

I was the one who posted on buygpsnow and had the power problem with my CF slot (using my tablet PC). It's funny that I was the one who actually troubleshooted the problem and had to convince them what it was, though they made it sound like they determined the problem/solution. I am using it now in the CF slot of my x51v without a problem. I also have the bluetooth slipper so that I can connect with bluetooth if I prefer. It's a pretty slick little bundle and the bluetooth slipper does have a removable/replaceable battery.

I don't have any problems connecting with it in the CF slot. Even when I'm inside my work, near a window that has full shade from some oak trees. The Sirf III chipset really works well.

Thanks a bunch... yeah, I recognized your user handle on BuyGPSNow.com, hehehe.... glad to know 303III works for you coz I just ordered one yesterday!

According to the sales, they said the only CF-based receiver which may cause problem is the 305III because it has the extra SD card slot on the receiver, and x51(v) users reported the PDA can't access files on the SD card if inserted in the SD slot of 305III.

I hope my 303III will work well as well, but my main concern is, will my old iGuidance work with WM5.0?! My brother has a X30 before and now he has Samsung i730 PDA phone, both running WM2003SE with his BT Fortuna Clip-On receiver (that's why I wanna get CF-based receiver as comparison). Hope I can solve out the compatibility problem for WM5.0...

I got x51v and Garmin GPS10 w/QUE nav software, It works perfectly fine when I went to orlando florida last month. I also, try using iGuidance 2.1.1 with my GPS10 and also works and connect fast.
