Dell NAVTEQ GPS Navigation System Software and WM5 Updates Available Now
I received the Dell WM5 upgrade disk yesterday.
Included within the shipment was a sheet of paper that said:
If you have previously purchased the Dell GPS Navigations Software, you
must updated your application to be compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0.
Please follow these instructions.
1. Make sure Dell GPS Navigation system software is closed on the Pocket PC.
2. Make sure Dell GPS Navigation system Map Loader is closed on the Laptop/Desktop.
3. Connect the Dell Axim to the Laptop/Desktop and open Microsoft ActiveSync.
4. From Microsoft ActiveSync Click on Tools, Add/remove Programs.
5. Select and highlight “Dell GPS Navigation System”.
6. Click on “Remove” on the bottom of the dialog box to remove the application from both the Dell Axim and the Laptop/Desktop.
7. Download the required zip file from www.navigation.com/dellupdate There are separate application versions of the Dell GPS Navigation System for North America and for Europe.
8. Extract the entire contents of the zip file into a temporary folder on the Laptop/Desktop.
9. Run Setup.exe from the a temporary folder and follow the onscreen prompts to install the updated version.
Now if you go to the link you will find the same ver. A01 software priced at $99, I have this software although I have not yet updated to WM5. I do not understand this Dell talk about the zip file as it is NOT to be found. Maybe it has not been posted yet, or again, Dell feels you need to pay for the $99 GPS updated. All I can say now is keep an eye on that site for a free update maybe :rolling:

Reason: Update thread title
So Dell is wants everyone to PAY for the new A01 or A02 maps in order to get your Dell software to work with WM5.
For those that sill have ver A00 software and maps, I am sure it will only be a short time before someone finds a work-around using the old map data with the new supplied application & map loader included within the zip files.
This post is just in case they pull the d-load page but do not remove the files from the ftp servers.
Primary Site direct ftp Link ftp://dellpda:update1@ftp.navteq.com/

So if I upgrade to WM5 on my X50v, then my Dell GPS sofware will not work. I can only make it work if I spend $100 to upgrade my maps and software. Then I download a patch to make my new Dell GPS software to work with my new WM5 operating system...... maybe
So they give me a free upgrade to WM5 so I have to buy a GPS sofware upgrade... That seems like a fair and reasonable foster customer loyalty
Greg
PS has anybody tried to if the GPS ver. A00 will work with WM5 on the x50v?
I hooked up my new X51v to the old Dell GPS software and it works great, except you can't use the landscape mode. Installing the patch only supports the newer software version.
My question is...
The IGuidance software looks very similar to the Dell GPS software from Navteq. Is it one and the same? If so would it be better to just purchase the IGuidance or are their dissimilar issues in the way the application functions, i.e., map displays, routes, icons.

The two packages use the same Netropa engine, just with different shells. If you liked the interface with Dell, you'll find the iGuidance to be very similar.
It does work. I have the original Dell Navteq software. I am operating at 97 percent efficiency, i.e., no crashes, and only a few minor lockups. I can't use landscape but it still functions okay. Using the Dell BT GPS receiver and it appears fine.
I downloaded the new patch but it will not work unless you purchase the new maps.
Don't know what to tell you...
That is why I am looking at Iguidance. The products are similar and the support appears to be more friendly...

The $99 July Upgrade had two new issues not seen in A00 Release, namely a new 512mb map load limit and broken contact integration.
it did however provide for Landscape & VGA support but at significant loss in functionality.
Does this new Patch fix these two issues? Can i now load more than 512mb map file? Does Contact integration work? Did they add the weather feature of IG 2.1.3? Does it have also the enhanced 3d view of IG 2.1.3?

Here's a DELL bluetooth setup procedure that worked for me. It worked intermittently until I downloaded the free NAVTEC update referenced above. This assumes you have already loaded the software and desired maps.
1. turn on bluetooth gps and allow to establish lock (blinking green)
2. Click on bluetooth logo at bottom right
3. MODE TAB:turn on, and make this device discoverable
4. Devices TAB New partnership
5. (scans for bluetooth device sees bt-gps –353oe)
6. click and hit next
7. enter passkey 2003
8. next
9. wait
10. select service (checkbox serial port)
11. click finish
12. select COM ports >>new outgoing port
13. Observe bt-gps –353oe
14. click next
15. Change port from com7 to com8
16. Leave secure connection checked
17. click finish
18. click ok
19. Selec Startàsettings
20. Select system tab
21. click on GPS
22. In the programs tab select COM8 as gps program port
23. In the hardware tab select com7 as GPS hardware port
24. Verify baud rate = 4800
25. Select access tab, and verify manage GPS automatically is checked
26. Select OK
27. start Navigation program
Note the following steps were not necessary once I downloaded the update
28. select options-->GPS Options-->COM port and select COM7
29. select options-->GPS Options__>Baud rate and select 4800
30. Select Features-->GPS Status Verify UTC time is advancing and satellite window is updating
I have been following this very closely and like what I am seeing so far, I have downloaded the file as a precaution, and to have it ready for when I try WM5 install again. I am still leary due to the power up issue. I will probably try again over the thanksgiving break.
