Problems recognizing GPS unit

I tried connecting my Garmin Legend to my X51v via a combo E cable from PC-Mobile. The GPS unit is working but my Axim will not recognize it and states that no signal is received. Anyone know what com port settings I should be using? thanks

Gps Help

Hi,

I don't use your model, but....

Since no one has responded to you yet, I thought that I would try to help. You can usually try changing the Comm Port settings until you get it to work.

I use Bluetooth and mine are usually Comm Port 7 or 8 for my X50V. I believe when I used the CF version, my Comm Port setting was also either of those two.

Good luck,
ldj

COM1 is the serial port. Make sure the Garmin is in NMEA mode and at 4800 baud unless you are using Garmin software. Those are the standard settings for GPS interfaces.

Those are the settings I used. Also tried using com 2 then com 3 and the other choice is com 5. Didn't work. On the Axim I used several ports but no dice. Still getting meesage that "com is available but not receiving data from GPS unit" I ma using Streets & Trips 2005 on the Axim. thanks

Are you sure the Garmin is set for NMEA? It comes defaulted to the Garmin protocol, not NMEA.

Have you tried using a different PDA running WM2003SE? And verify that its not the new WM5 OS that's causing GPS comms issues first of all? The WM2003SE worked pretty much with most GPS devices.

There might be nothing wrong with your GPS unit but just the WM5 GPS detecting s/w.

Maybe its your serial cable.

I don't have the luxery of another PDA. Both Microsoft and Garmin state things should work. Cable maker says it's a Streets and Trips problem. Going to send the cable back and try another.

Finally got things to work. It appears that you have to have the Axim connect to power other than the battery for it to recognize the Garming GPS Unit. Don't know if this is a Dell problem or a W5 mobile glitch
