Question CF gps bundle + mapopolis?

Thanks for reading.

I am interested in buying a gps for my Axim.
I want a CF gps and I want Mapopolis software.
I like the Pharos gps bundle, like the one here:

http://www.shopperwiz.com/shopdispla...&Key=083000840

because it includes the car adapter and antenna, but I know that the mapopolis software is superior to the software included in this bundle. Does anyone know of a bundle like this that includes mapopolis? If it were similar in price that would be even better but I think now I'm probably asking for too much.

Thanks for your help.

Mapopolis Bundle

If you have not yet found it, try this link. You'll get Mapopolis Navigator and the Holux CF GPS for about $240, a few $$ more, but a much better package, incl an Arkon vent mount:

I bought this bundle

I bought this bundle last week. Haven't got the Holux yet but I do have the Pretech GPS to play with Navigator map. Superior tracking but the house numbers are shown wrong for my area. Some drawbacks are 20 million limits, house numbers wrong, load by counties but I will stick to it even though I haven't tried other map softwares out but I will go with the most prefer choice by other members on this site which is the combo. Holux 270 and Mapopolis Navigator.

Appreciation

Thanks a lot for your input. I think I'll go for the Holux Bundle and just buy a car adapter and external antenna separately. It will cost more but for another $50 I think it will be worth it.

Hold off on the external antenna. Many people have found that the Holux sees plenty of satelites without it. It depends on your car (especially if you have metalic tinting in your windshield) and where you mount the Ax.

I agree. My package came with the external antenna but only have used it once. I never have to use external antenna with my Axim in car, and I even get fix in my house most of the time.

On the other hand, I do need the external antenna when I use Holux with laptop. I try it once just for fun. For daily use, I stick with Axim and Holux.

I agree with AximTT on the Holux GPS.

I originally purchased the Pharos kit from Dell. I had it one weekend and returned it, it was horrible. The GPS was not very sensitive. The Holux picks up in my computer room where the Pharos would not.

The Mapopolis maps ARE years more updated than the Pharos Ostia maps. In my area the Mapopolis maps appear about 3-4 months out of date. The Pharos Ostia maps were almost 3-4 YEARS out of date. It didn't even have my home which has been here 2 years and it didn't have one stretch of freeway I have used for a while.

Good advice

Thanks for the insight. I'll hold off on the external antenna. I recently realized that there are a couple versions of mapopolis: Platinum Plus and Navigator editions. I want the Navigator edition because of its "dynamic door-to-door navigation with voice prompting". I believe that means you can hear the commands telling you which way to turn and if you go off the selected route then it will recalculate the best path to your destination. Navigation capability is the exact reason I want a GPS kit.

I hads the Pharos Unit and did not like it. I have returned the unit and looking for a replacement. I went to the Semsons link and found the Holux/Mapopolis bundle for $241, but also saw Holux Precison Plus/Mapopolis Navigator for $266. What is the difference between the two units? Is it worth the extra $20??? I have read a lot of ggod things abour Holus and Mapoplis and looking to get something useful. Thanks for any info. you can pass along.

The Holux precision plus is a little mire sensitive than the standard receiver. But the average the signal to get the extra sensitivity, which makes it a little slower. IMHO, save the $20 and spend it on the Dell car charger.

There have been threads written about this, but the short version may be gotten from this post, on GPS Passion:

"I placed an order for the Ultra, but then decided to cancel the order because I wasn't sure of the neccesity for the improved accuracy. This was the response I got from Semsons:

"Thank you for your email. Don't worry, we think you have made a good
choice. Holux CF GPS Ultra is designed for field work where extra sensitivity is worth the extra dollar. However, with extra sensitivity, the trade-off is slower response time. If your main purpose is in-city navigation, we believe Holux CF GPS is better.

Regards,

Sales Team,
www.semsons.com"

Hope this helps. If you join gpspassion.com, $10, you can get 10% off of the $241 bundle to boot.

don't pay for what you don't use

I agreed with Semsons. You don't really need the ultra with higher price and slower due to extra sensitivity. Regular one will work for most people. I am happy with mine. Save your money to buy the car charger adapter. I bought on Ebay for less than $15 and worked great. I like to keep it on all the time as it is cool, informative and fun to watch and light on constantly too so that would eat the battery fast. A car charger is a must for serious use. Have fun with your new toy.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going with the Holux270 and Mapopolis and get the car charger. I read some of the other threads and the slower response is not worth the increased accuracy for me. If Holux could make the Ultra as fast as the Std unit then I would go for that.
