OCN5 XMAS bundle "review"

I got the bundle from buygpsnow...looked like a pretty good deal. Installed it and found that...I had nothing but problems. Memory issues, wouldn't connect to bluetooth, etc. I have an x50v that is pretty clean, memory wise, with everything installed to a cf or sd card.

Buygpsnow responded to my problem question FAST...very impressed! They told me that the whole USA map was probably overwhelming the amount of memory i had available. Well, I think this is a flaw iwth the system overall. Like i said, i have a pretty lean machine...the whole us map takes 20+ megs and that gets tight. You'll definitely want to soft reset before using.

What i did was get rid of hte whole us map and just went to a regional map. NO more problems! The regional map requires less memory, and i would only do a soft reset every couple of days just to get things clean. The other KEY thing to know is SHUT DOWN OCN5 PROPERLY BEFORE SHUTTING OFF THE AXIM!! You must quit the program, or you will not be able to connect to bluetooth when you restart. Quit properly, and you'll never have a prolem.

As for the bt339...worked great! As for OCN5, it is GREAT! For the full power, youll want to go to the advanced user mode. It looks great, works great. I rented a Herts car with a magellan neverlost gps in it this week. While the neverlost maybe has kmore points of interest, and the dedicated hardware buttons are nice, the screen and program are not as good as ocn5! I took a LOT of wrong turns in my hertz ("approaching right turn" was useless when you are in Philly where at a spur there are 4 right turns back to back to back...ocn is more specific with "turn in 300 feet").

Great package, great support. Woohoo!

I don't think I have your XMAS bundle, but I have the whole integrated North America map (US and Canada). I have it stored on a 4GB CF card. I installed all of OCN5 (program+maps) into my 4GB CFflash card.

OCN5 requires a fast SD or CF memory card. I use a 4GB 45x CFflash card.

I have 29+ MBs free in MMemory. It loads and runs every single time, and I get no memory issues with it on my Axim X50v w/A05 ROM.

What is the kind/make/type/speed of your memory card?

hmmm. I also bought the xmas bundle. Everything works great for me. I'm running an x50v on A04. I just took a trip to Denver, CO and I had no memory issues or problems. I'm pretty happy with it. I usually have about 26.5 to 28.6 of memory available. I've loaded most of my programs in bis or other sd card.

Wow you guys are getting up to 29Megs of free memory? Wow...i can get low twenties after soft reset...and that doesn't last long. I have most of my stuff saved to SD card, but a few items like SPB diary are in main memory. Have program stored on fast CF card 45x+ speed...

In any event, the regional maps are plenty for me since i don't really do cross country type trips.

Use MemMaid to move anything in MM (that can be moved) to BIS. When you move an item, MemMaid might allow it or not. If it allows it to be moved, verify that application and see if still works after it is moved. If it does not, just move it back. If it does work, leave it in BIS, and voila, you just freed up more Main Memory!!!

I had the same problems as you and gave up on it. This was on a fresh 50v as well. OCN had nothing helpful to say, had to take a loss on it and sell it away. As you can see, many have had the same problem, but others have had good experiences as well.
