Axim X5 basic, bluetooth CF card and globostat BT receiver

I have a basic Axim and would like to squeeze some more juice out of it and am thinking of going for a BT SIRF III gps. It will be possible only with a bluetooth CF card (e.g Belkin). Has anybody used such a card on a X5 and then used a BT gps? How much memory the driver eats away? With only 32 MB available, every byte counts.

Is it reliable? Pl. share the experience.

Thanks in advance...

Harish

Is this option of having a BT gps not explored or too much to expect from old Axim basic?

Thanks in advance,

Harish

Hi,
You should be good to go with your X5 w/BT CF card for local driving. I began with the same type setup and all was OK. It's going to be based on your software and how much memory it takes to navigate the map segments you're using at the time.

Good luck,

It is heartening to know it is possible. Do u have any idea how much memory is eaten by the BT CF card driver? Usually driver should not eating a lot of memory. From an old review on internet, Routis does support BT gps.

Thanks in advance..

I have a 2 year old X5 and use the Pharos CF GPS system. Got it a few years ago. Since I am a real estate broker in Baltimore Maryland, I use it daily and am very disappointed with the softwares performance. Although it is more accurate than our weather forecasters…it (Pharos Software) ain’t much better. I’ve actually had many negative comments from customers riding in my car.
It seems to lose its signal often, get confused and give wrong directions, announce turns AFTER you’ve already passed them and generally just piss ya off.

Well, I really needed something much more reliable since I must plan routes to maybe 10 houses at a clip. I heard some really good things about Mapopolis....The software is free and you download maps to try it out that are good for 9 days. It was love at first sight! www.mapopolis.com

I have been looking at Oncourse BT (a sibling of Globalstat). As per the buygpsnow.com, it comes with a y-split charger which can power both the BT as well as Axim using an adapter to hook to the serial cable end of the Axim (X5 in my case). From the website, it appears that it has to be purchased separately from the pda manufacturer. I went to Dell site where they have a car-charger which apparantly goes into the AC/DC power socket of Axim.

My question is whether Oncourse y-spilt cable can be connected to the Axim AC/DC input power socket?

thanks in advance...
