Hi All,

Over the course of the last 6 days, using the same tried and true procedure that I had with my older G2500 power adaptor, I tried to blow out my car's 10A fuse but failed with this newer power adaptor.

After Day 6 of torturing my new Seidio power adaptor from the G4850 package, I have to concur that this new power adaptor does not have the previous issues, and is fixed in my new version.

I've attached the pictures so you can see in attached pictures, the older G2500 power adaptor was version "04" and the newer G4850 is version "06".

I can say that the new Seidio power adaptors works well to power the mount and seem to have fixed the previous older issues. Excellent job! Also, it is 3A rated.

I've updated my G4850 review to reflect this.

Happy Xmas!

Great discount for Aximsite members! My colleague who has the Arkon mount has decided to go with this new G4850 mount after seeing the difference. He's going to keep the Arkon for a second truck and use the G4850 as his primary mount.

I'll mention this new discount to him as well. I think Xmas is coming early to his house.

Cheers,

So Lawman, is this the best GPS receiver?

"Best" is in the eye of the beholder. If you want to do geocaching, this won't work. If you want hiking, this won't work. But it has the latest chipset from Sirf, the Sirf Star III, and it works very well in an environment where it can have 12-24v DC power provided.

I agree with Jake. "Best" is extremely difficult to quantify among so many very capable GPS units out there. This G4850 mount has the SiRF III chipset and also has the latest firmware 3.1.1 (which has the fix for the jet-lag bug fix).

You can't ask for much more in a GPS car mount for the price/quality/features + two mounting options (vent and gooseneck).

/how would you compare this to the Rikaline, BT-338 and OnCourse? These seem to be my three finalists, though I'm always open for more input. Thanks!

heybhouse,

not sure how to respond. Reason being as follows:

- Rikaline (makes many different type of portable GPS units)
- BT-338 (portable GPS unit)
- OCN5 (this is one of the GPS mapping programs I used)

Now, the Seidio G4850 mount is not portable, and is supposed to be a fixture in a car. So, you can move it from car to car, but you would not be carrying this in your pocket like the BT-338 or Rikaline GPS units.

It depends on whether you want portability, or not.

Now, if you're asking about the GPS performance itself, then the integrated GPS in the Seidio G4850 mount might be equal or better to the BT-338 or Rikaline (if they are SiRF III based) since it has the latest firmware 3.1.1.

As for the OCN5 software, it worked flawlessly with the Seidio G4850 mount.

Cheers.

Thanks Lawman! I appreciate the input. I think portability is important since I travel in many types of vehicles. I hope this isn't a redundant question but would you recommend BT-338 over the OnCourse SiRF Star III Bluetooth GPS Receiver?

Its the same BT unit, just rebranded under OnCourse, I think. Others can correct me if I'm wrong. If you've already made up your mind on which GPS mapping program to use, and you're planning to get OnCourse, then the BT-338 or the OnCourse BT-339? is the best choice. Get whichever is cheaper.

Thanks again Lawman! I'll most likely go with one of those though now I have to go through the same process with mapping software.... =/

Hi Lawman,

What do you think about iGuidance software ? Comparing to OCN5 and Tomtom, it is cheaper.

Hi jin0124,

I'm not very familiar with iGuidance but I have compared the screens of iGuidance 2.0 to the Garmin, OCN5, and TomTom. I find the Garmin screens more intuitive, and they have more solid features but lacking 3D (if you like 3D). There are pros and cons with each, but overall, I would just go with one.

You won't find perfection with any single one GPS mapping program, and that's the kicker.

Upgrade deal from Seidio

Hi Folks,

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is David Silver and I'm the Operations Manager here at Seidio. I'll be checking in frequently to answer whatever questions you may have and make occasional announcements. Both David Chang and myself work very closely together to try and provide the best products and support possible. I'm happy to announce that past purchasers of the G2500 for the Dell Axim X50/51 will find an email (check your spam!) offering a discount of $50 on our new G4850S Car Kit (NOT the Navigation Kit). This offer will be valid from the 12th - 18th of December. It's a great opportunity to upgrade to a SiRF Star III chipset integrated powered mount for your device. Just add your GPS software package, Dell Axim, and you're off! I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish the best of the holiday season to all of you and your families, friends, and acquaintances. Thanks for all of your support in the past and here's to more in the future. If you want to email me directly, I can be reached at: davidsilver@seidio.com

Seidio Discount

Hi David,

I just received a G4850 mount for my new Axim X51V and a G2500 mount for my older HP 5450 that I gave to my son. We've been running with them in our respective vehicles for two days now and love them. I got him the 2500 mount because the HP was already paired up with a Globalsat BT-338. The new G4850 mount is so good that I want to get one for my wife. Any chance that I could also qualify for this discount? I bought the other two mounts through SeidioOnline.com, but did not receive the email offer. Thanks.

John
