First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is David Silver and I'm the Operations Manager here at Seidio. I'll be checking in frequently to answer whatever questions you may have and make occasional announcements. Both David Chang and myself work very closely together to try and provide the best products and support possible. I'm happy to announce that past purchasers of the G2500 for the Dell Axim X50/51 will find an email (check your spam!) offering a discount of $50 on our new G4850S Car Kit (NOT the Navigation Kit). This offer will be valid from the 12th - 18th of December. It's a great opportunity to upgrade to a SiRF Star III chipset integrated powered mount for your device. Just add your GPS software package, Dell Axim, and you're off! I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish the best of the holiday season to all of you and your families, friends, and acquaintances. Thanks for all of your support in the past and here's to more in the future. If you want to email me directly, I can be reached at: davidsilver@seidio.com
Hey David - does that mean the 2500 might be coming down in price, or might have some discount with all the people who are upgrading? I'm still a X5 user and am thinking of getting a decent mount like the 2500.
Hi Lawman, do you know exactly what version of i guidance they are selling? I went to their website and it says version 2.0 and i dunno if it will work on my axim x 51v. I heard that i guidance has a newer version 2.1.3 that would work w/ wm5. Anyone from seidio knows...thanks....By the way lawman, excellent reviews. I am new here....Gil
I am not certain which version of iGuidance that Seidio has other than what is listed on their website. I would say its still v2.0.
As far as I know, the iGuidance v2.1.1 is a CD version. And the iGuidance v2.1.3 is a DVD version. You can buy the iGuidance v2.1.1 (CD version) and download the patch to move it up to v2.1.3. The iGuidance DVD version v2.1.3 already has the update. So no additional update is needed. I am not certain of the numbering scheme.
Seidio's looks like a iGuidance v2.0 but I'm not certain.
After more checking, I believe iGuidance 2.0 is the CD version and iGuidance v2.1.1 is the DVD version. So, if you buy the iGuidance 2.0, you should be able to update to v2.1.3 by d/ling the patch. But I believe the patch to v2.1.3 is only if you use it with WM5.
Not sure why iGuidance makes the numbering so difficult...maybe its just me. :)
To someone who can answer this: I'm very interested in getting the G4850 for my X50V for navigation, but I'm wondering if it's possible to attach an external antenna to the unit? If not, where is the antenna located? I'm a little concerned with poorer reception with the antenna (probably) sitting underneath the Axim.
I'm coming from an iQue 3600 and while I really like the external antenna, it's a royal pain to plug and unplug when I remove the device (so I don't use it as much). With the antenna sitting on the roof, I can get sat fixes SO MUCH faster and also much much stronger signals from more satellites. I'd love to have this functionality on the Axim coupled with the Seidio mount.

Don't worry about using an external antenna. I have this mount with an x51v and it locks on very fast.

You can get 2.1.3 in either one DVD or 3CD set. buygpsnow.com has both.

all i want to know is if Seidio support is going to improve...there have been numerous reports of issues with Siedio 2500 mounts and you(seidio support) were around the forums for awhile and disappeared when alot of issues developed....
Members had huge issues with quality control, blown fuses etc...
support was nowhere to be found
Sorry despite the nice product..I will not buy until Seidio proves they are supporting there products..my $$ is too valuable
Hey Neal,
If your looking for a mount you should check out Arkon, I just got my CM715 a few days ago and have been very impressed! Check out my thoughts on it at this thread... http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=114701

thanks I use a nonpowered Arkon mount for now and I have been happy for 6mo
But Seidio has a history of poor support and now with new product they are back...I think people need to rememberthere lack of support and disappearence from these forums(despite promises of help) in the past
It maybe a great product but go search and see all the issues...it is BUYER BEWARE till they prove they have changed
They may have and I hope so..OCZ(several yrs back was horrible)-make PSU, memory for PCS- now they are example of outstanding support
I got e-mail confimation of shipping for the G4850S this morning, and the FedEx package showed up six hours later. (That's Houston TX to Niagara Falls, Canada, folks, someone's slow on the e-mail queue ...)
BTW, the FedEx processing fee amounted to $7 CDN.
I ripped open the box, clicked all the bits n' pieces together, plugged it into the car, enabled Pocket Streets, spec'd the COM port, and the signal was THERE, (inside my garage!!!)
It looks the part of a well made kit, and holds the Ax securely, even in landscape mode. The unit charged, until full, just as advertised. Outstanding!
Ok, now this is Aximsite, and it seems there is a tacit requirement for at least some whining, but honestly, I'm reaching here...
The 8" gooseneck mount, though well built and sturdy, does vibrate and bounce around a bit on the bombed out streets hereabouts. I may fiddle with the (included) vent mount if it becomes an issue.
Thanks Lawman for an honest and thorough appraisal of this unit.
