I have a G2500S that has just stopped working today. The LED on the cigarette adaptor lights up but the green light on the mount does not. I have done a voltage test on the charger and it comes out at approx 24 Volts is this correct.

24 volts? Are you sure its 24V coming from your cigarette adaptor? I'll take a look at both my mounts. But as far as I know, both Seidio mounts should take only 12V directly. The conversion from 12V to 5V takes place inside the mount. If its 24V you're sending directly to the Seidio mount, it might be a reason why your mount is not working. Check your cig adaptor and verify if fuse is blown. If not, your cig adaptor could very well be defective and instead of sending 12V to the Seidio mount, it is sending 24V.

Change it and get a replacement. Look at my sig for the replacement cig adaptor to get from RadioShack.

Yes my car cigarettle output is 12v. The seidio has worked for about 9 months, now sopped so i just wanted to check if it was the mount or the adaptor part. Then i discovered the adaptor is kicking out approx 24v. I would assume this has killed the mount also now.

Maybe a rep from seidio can offer me a discount on a replacement g4800s if i return this fault g2500s.

No, don't assume it has killed your mount. Your mount might still be fine. Just get a new replacement cig adaptor that outputs 12V and check. No sense getting a new mount if your mount still works. My cig adaptor was faulty for my G2500 and has blown out my car fuses but after I replaced it, I found my G2500 still working. So, your G2500 mount might still be working.

No, the G2500 or G4850 mount you bought should work fine. My original G2500 has been working well over a year now, and the only issue with the cig power adaptors has since been resolved by Seidio. I have no issues with the G4850 so far. Love it for its simplicity.

Does Axim turn on automatically when inserted?

Does anyone know if there is power applied to the mount will the Axim power on when inserted? Just like when you insert the Axim into a desk top cradle the unit automatically powers on.
Thanks

No, the Ax doesn't automatically power up when inserted into the cradle (or at least my X50v doesn't). The reason it comes on in the computer-connected cradle is that Activesync sees the activity from the computer and wakes up the Ax to see if a connection needs to be made.

Hi everybody!
After weeks of reading, the time has come for first posting.
I haven't found any thread similar enough to my concerns so I'm asking here.

I'm planning to buy Axim x51v and Seidio G4850. Most probably G4850 will be installed in air vent (standard windshield pedestal seems to be to short for using in my car).

But winter is coming slowly and what worries me are Axim and Seidio's reactions on hot air coming from air vent. Did anyone face any problems with improper operation related to overheating in this condition.

Regards

My Axim runs hot, while in the mount. I believe this becuase the backlight is on all the time.

I would still try the window mount. I mine is "short" also, but I like where it stops, still over the dash, so my G4850/Axim rests lightly on dash, so it is not just bounding in space.

I have not noticed any problems from running the G4850 over the air vent with hot air coming out. I live in Ottawa, and we have pretty cold weather here.

Mine G4850 is connected on the air vent but it does not bounce around. The G4850 has a support arm at the bottom of the mount that rotates freely. This is used as a brace against the edge of your air vent. So, it remains in place.

Will there be another promotion anytime soon? I'm in the market for a gps receiver and a good mount and really like the G4850s but $149.00 seems out of my price range right now. :(
