iGuidance installed on SD card?
I have iGuidance on order (arrives Monday). I recall reading somewhere that the program itself (as well as the maps) may be installed on a SD card to save PDA memory space. Can somebody confirm that please, and if true should I purchase a high-speed SD card? I know that card speed primarily affects writing, so the question really is how much writing to the card is going on if iGuidance is installed there?

Thanks

I use tomtom and installed it on a regular speed sd card. It runs great. A high speed card will make no measurable difference.

I've installed it on my CF card with no problems whatsoever. Actually, I have the program installed on my SD card and the maps on the CF card. Works fine for me.
It should do no writing, actually. When you execute the program, it goes into memory. Same as the map(s) you load. It shouldn't write anything other than settings to the program that you make to the card. I maybe slightly off, but I think I'm quite accurate.

Same as above - I have it installed to my SD card along with the maps. Recommend at least a 1G card, if not 2G. Otherwise you'll find yourself switching maps. Typical state is anywhere from 50MB to 200MB+. When you start combining them into multiple states, it eats quickly. I had the whole East Coast on my 1 G card. I'm in Europe now and have the UK and , Belgium, France and Germany on mine now for around 700MB.

Enjoy! It works like a champ!

I am also expecting it on monday and will be installing program on my CF card. I understand that iGuidance looks at the MAPS directory for maps. Having multiple different states maps is possible by creating folders with individual states with state specific name for identification. When required, they can be renamed to MAPS folder for Iguidance to use. My question is whether it is possible to have one such state folder on (say CF card) and other on SD card and merely renaming to MAPS folder will correctly point the software. Actually I have a 256 MB CF card where I intend to keep the program and the local state map only. This will probably never need to be rewritten and Iguidance will be pointing to its local MAPS directory. I want to reserve my SD card (256 MB) to put the maps of the state which I visit ocassionaly. So when I am going to different state, I should just rename default MAPS folder in CF card to MAPS_NY say (thereby inactivating it) and rename MAPS_LA to MAPS on the SD card. Will Iguidance automatically point to this MAPS folder on the SD card? Because of the size limatations on CF as well as SD card, physically moving the entire maps directory from CF to SD or vice-versa is not possible.

Thanks in advance,

Harish

I Got my Iguidance yesterday and installed it to the CF card. No problems whatsoever. Since i never installed it on Memory, i dont have a baseline to compare with but i see no probs with speed.

Btw congrats on your Iguidance purchase. This software is a breeze.

Doubt it - just like a regular computer, it looks for information in a given directory. I haven't tried it, but try before you need it. Rename your Maps folder to Maps_NY. Fire up the program and see if it gives you the option to reroute the directory to the SD card. If it gives you that option, then it shouldn't matter what you name the new folder - you can leave it as MAP_LA or whatever. However to change it back, you'd have to rename it again, forcing iGuidance to relook for a different folder again - the Maps_NY.

Let us know if it works.

Hmm. When I installed on the SD card it wouldn't run, maybe the Europe version is different? Their web site mentions a patch for Europe 'comming soon'.
