CF or BT GPS -> car plug argument
I know the comparison is frequently asked for on this site, but I have a specific issue: if I wanted my X51 and the reciever getting charged while driving, I would need two separate car plug cords, wouldn't I? Therefore a CF reciever seems more convenient for me, because then I would only have to power my X51 with one cord. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks...

The current generation of BT GPS receivers have battery life anywhere from 8 ~ 16 hours. For most people, this should be enough.

It is true that CF GPS has more simple setup. However, the trend is moving to BT GPS and many softwares seem to have issues with CF GPS under WM5.

Many BT receivers get 17 Hours Batt life. Mine came with a Y cable to charge while you power your Axim from a Cigarette lighter cord. You can also buy the Y cable separate. Good review on battery life is Here

EDIT: also if you go to landscape mode with your CF GPS it will point the wrong way (Vert.) I Don't know if this is important to you. I guess if you buy the good Sirf III GPS chipset it would not matter?

Well, that is an interesting point. Never thought of that. I'm leaning more and more towards BT, but I am not yet convinced of either type...

Or you can qo with the haicom 305III + BT slipper. Costs about $50 more but it gives you the flexibility of choosing either/or. Be warned that there possible compatabilily issues w/WM5, though there are some reports of success. Iv'e ordered this combo to use with iguidance, and can give you my experience with it next week when it arrives.

I have the Haicom 303III with the bluetooth slipper and it works well on my x51v. Most of the time that I use it, it is in the CF slot. However, on long trips, I put the 303III in the bluetooth slipper and plug it in a cigarette lighter in the back of my SUV and mount it on the window holder- one less thing to worry about.

With CF, you have single-unit convenience. With Bluetooth, you have the open CF slot for files, apps, etc. And most vehicles sold in the U.S. come with at least 2 auto accessory outlets, not sure what is typical in the Netherlands. A BT GPS receiver will likely come with its own charging adapter. Plus, a BT receiver may also be positioned in your vehicle for optimum signal reception. Also, there are some units that have the GPS built into the charging cradle/mount for auto use, freeing up the CF slot and requiring only one charger, with the sacrifice of non-auto use. I opted for a BT unit, myself. Hope these thoughts help.
