Alex, you do not need the update if this was a purchase from Dell that month ago. They've been selling only the latest version. It also won't make any changes since you are running the latest version already, and if I recall correctly, the patch identifies the PPC OS anyway.
The delay in obtaining a fix is more likely in the way you are using your GPS. Dell is still using the GlobalSat BT-309 receiver. Makes sure you've set the baud rate properly to 38400. What kind of reception are you getting? You might not have a good line of sight for the GPS to acquire the satellites, and it will take longer to fix while in motion.

I am facing a similar problem with my Axim X51v, A06 'upgrade' from A01 and a GPSlim 236 BT GPS receiver. Everything worked well under A01 but I foolishly opted for the latest and greatest i.e. A06. Now I can't establish a connection even after following TJT's detailed advice. I don't remember doing anything in the COM Ports tab before under A01 but I tried TJT and Andrew1883's suggestion this time and still no luck, including a soft reset. I assume TJT that you didn't check Serial Port under the Partnership Settings. I know some connection is being made because when I establish a partnership with the GPS receiver, the rate of blinking on its BT LED changes. Any suggestions? Please...?

Should I install the Navtaq update http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...fDownloadCenter it says it's only:
"...I own a Dell Axim X50/ X50V and have upgraded my Operating System from Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 (second edition) to Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0.." which is not the case.
Did anyone try the update on the x51v, I bought the GPS unit about a month ago so I am assuming my map data is version A01 . How can I verify that???
Thanks,

I installed the update on the 51v and it still takes 5-10 minutes to get the GPS to start showing the co-ordinates.

I have a few questions regarding how you got your GPS to work with your Axim. I have a X50V that I just upgraded to WM5.0 and cannot get the GPS unit to work. It worked properly yesterday when I was using the old operating system. Any help with settings would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mea culpa - apparently the problem wasn't the ROM upgrade but my BT GPS receiver. Everything worked properly after I removed the battery from the receiver overnight. The only thing I still don't understand is that now the GPS is showing up on COM port 8 rather than 7 where it used to be. As a matter of interest I DID NOT check the serial port which I assume is for a hard-wired connection as opposed to BT one. Interestingly, my entries under the COM Ports tab seem to be the flip side of andrew1883's i.e.
Holux GPSlim236 (COM8)
Incoming Port (COM7)
New Outgoing Port

BT uses a serial port profile. So when pairing you have to select serial port profile and also set up com ports. Either of the com port you mention will work as long as your navigation software is set to same.

1.documentation says the passkey # is 2003. 0000 didn't work for me, 2003 did.

Green LED clarification

I've had the receiver out on the car dash for more than an hour at a time (in Florida). It's erratic, but even now that the green satellite light is more consistently solid, the blue lights keep blinking, and the Dell software never seems to know where I am. I should add that I haven't had any other reason to use the Bluetooth.
Thanks!

Hi Andrew & rest of the team with a similar question:
I have a X51 with BT GPS for about 2 weeks now so I do not consider myself knowledgeable enough to answer all questions but I did download a PDF version of the Owner's manual which seems to be more comprehensive than the small leaflet that showed up with my Dell GPS. It clearly says in multiple locations that "BLINKING green LED indicates that GPS position IS FIXED. Steady indicates that position is NOT fixed (gets signal from fewer than 3 satellites)". Although it takes less than 1 minute for my unit to get fixed, they do say in the manual that it can take upto 15 minutes to get a strong signal and start blinking.
Hope this helps clarify at least one part of your question. Good luck!

Hey guys, i had the same problem with the Dell Gps Navigation system. I had Two of the Dell Gps Receivers and both of them would not work after the upgrade to WM5. I upgraded to the new chipset, a slim 236. Everything works execpt the dell nav. software. Dells support is falling apart. No rom update for the X50 and their gps solution is a nightmare. it doesnt work!

I've had the same problem with the X51V. Here's how I get
the TTY Bluetooth GPS to work. On every attempt, I have to
delete the Teletype connection, rescan for the device and
absloutely follow the directions shown on the screen for
setting up the incoming channel (8) and outgoing channel (7)
and the rest of the screen prompts. Get Teletypes' TTY.ZIP
for a PDA version of Windows' HyperTerminal to view
the data on Channel 8 (or 7). This is also a mystery, sometimes
the data shows up on channel 8 some of the time and on channel 7
at other times. I use TT's GPS program and use whatever comes
up. On my desk top, the BT GPS always comes up on Channel 8
and the Windows' BT program provides an easy way to establish
the connection. I hope this is of some help to others.

Go into the "GPS Info" option(if such exists) of your software and look at the status of the satellite. Alternatively download GPSinfo program linked from http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/t...TOPIC_ID=40231 , install the program and you can see why it's taking 5-10 minutes. You need at least 3 solid fix (green bars) to have the program pin-point your position.
If I am not mistaken, if you switch on the GPS at the exact same location you last switched it off, it will have a fix in no time. If you switch it on at a different location (as in blocks away), it'll take 5-10 minutes. Also if the reception is no good, it'll take that long.
