But, I also ordered the Dell Bluetooth GPS and I am having difficulties connecting the two. The Axim recognises the presence of the GP unit but I seem not to have figured out the correct settings which enable them to communicate, the PDA unit is simply defaulting to a position on the map.
I am now wondering whether the GPS cannot work with the Axim under WM5. Are you able to help please?
I'm having a similar problem so I hope you don't mind me hooking onto your topic...
I have the Axim X51v and recently bought the GPS Bluetooth receiver (on the 12 days of deals sale). Nothing seems to be working when I try to use it as a GPS unit.
First, the devices don't seem to pair automatically, I have to force them to do so. But the blue light never stops blinking (on both), is it supposed to be solid when they're connected or is blinking okay?
Secondly, the green Satellite light on the GPS receiver takes a long time to stop blinking. It seems like it should be solid once it's connected to 3 satellites, though the instructions are ambiguous on this. Is there anything I can do? I've had the receiver out on the car dash for more than an hour at a time (in Florida). It's erratic, but even now that the green satellite light is more consistently solid, the blue lights keep blinking, and the Dell software never seems to know where I am. I should add that I haven't had any other reason to use the Bluetooth.
I'm guessing any other problems using the software may be related to this, so I won't ask further. One other question though, I've used the daisy-chain power cables from my car outlet, can I also plug in the Axim AC adapter and charge both devices?
I am experiencing the same symptoms as you. Only aspect I had not noticed was a delay in achieving satellite lock but they may be a symptom of location (UK). Hopefully someone will help us out on the comms problem.
On the question on charging dual devices I would have thought this would work but I have no first hand knowledge.

Since the Axim recognizes the unit, create a partnership with it. This is done with the bluetooth manager.. You may be prompted to enter a code which should be specified in your GPS documentation and it typically a 4 digit number like 0000.
Now with the units paired, go the to com ports tab on the manager, and create an incoming port at Com8, and a new outgoing port at Com7. You should have 3 entries under com ports; New Outgoing Port, Dell BT Gps (Com7), and Incoming Port (Com8). Not sure what the Dell calls itself but it be something like above. Do not do anything in the Settings/GPS section of WM as it only seems to screw things up.
I know your answer was to asutton but it seemed to apply to me too.
I hadn't set up the COM ports because I didn't recall any documentation telling me to do so. I did that but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem:
I now have three entries under "COM Ports":
BT-GPS-036BAF (COM7)
Incoming Port (COM8)
New Outgoing Port
but I still get only a red arrow in Dell Navigation. How am I supposed to know when I have a good Bluetooth connection, and the satellite info seems to have no satellites showing. What can I do to get the GPS (which now has a solid green satellite light) talking to the Axim X51v?
Within the Dell navigation software, did you set com port to match the BT-xxxx com port? You have com port 7 set, your navigation software should also be at com 7. I use iGuidance w/BT gps and that was all the setup necessary.
If you mean in "Dell Navigation" program, I've looked under "Navigate", "Options", and "Features", and there's nothing I can see there.
If you mean in Windows, under SETTINGS | SYSTEM | GPS, there's an option for "GPS program port" but if I set it for COM7 I get "The GPS program port and hardware port cannot be the same value".
I am facing the same issues with the Dell GPS and a new Axim 51v. I ahve done this many times on my other Dell and other machines. No luck. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I am experiencing same problem with Dell BT GPS and Axim 51v I've downloaded and installed the WM5 patch and GPS software.
Here's the steps I'm using-- Still no connection- What to do?
1)Turn on Bluetooth
2)Tap New Partnership--see ? BT-GPS-01Dff6 in list
3)Tap ? BT-GPS-01Dff6 and next.
4)Enter passkey and next
5)Display Name: BT-GPS- 01Dff6 and Select services....
6)Select services.... only choice is "Serial Port" and finish.
7)Back to Bluetooth New partnership screen -- see ?BT-GPS-01Dff6
8)Select ?BT-GPS-01Dff6 and "Save"
9)Select COM Ports tab (see New outgoing Port and New incoming Port)
10)Select New outgoing Port, select BT-GPS-01Dff6 and next. Port defaults to COM7. Select Secure Connection. Finish
11)Select New incoming Port, change to COM8. Select secure connection. Finish.
I purchased my BT GPS with an Axim 50v package, and but now have the 51v. The GPS system worked well with the 50v.

Hey, thanks for posting that update link! I was going to try this because I have the first-gen Dell BT GPS system (bought it for my X30), but it says I needed the A01 map update first. I tried to order it, but their stupid web site doesn't like my home address. I live at RD #x, Box xxx but their site thinks I'm entering a P.O. box. I send them a note and told them they were making it extremely difficult to give them my money

I had similar issues with my X51v and Dell GPS BT , after following the manual steps to setup the COM ports it seems to work, but it takes sometimes up to 5-10 minutes to get the GPS to start showing the new coordinates on the Axim. Should I install the Navtaq update http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...fDownloadCenter it says it's only:
"...I own a Dell Axim X50/ X50V and have upgraded my Operating System from Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 (second edition) to Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0.." which is not the case.
Did anyone try the update on the x51v, I bought the GPS unit about a month ago so I am assuming my map data is version A01 . How can I verify that???

Look at your three disc set of North American disc and in the lower right hand corner of the disc carrier you will see the version number either as A0 or as A1. Also on the bottom line of the discs you will also see the version listed.
I have a few questions regarding how you got your GPS to work with your Axim. I have a X50V that I just upgraded to WM5.0 and cannot get the GPS unit to work. It worked properly yesterday when I was using the old operating system. Any help with settings would be appreciated.
Thanks
