(fixed) Pharos GPS 360 w/ CF adapter connects on my X50v, but never finds satellites?
I recently purchased Streets and Trips 2005 with GPS, and today I bought the CompactFlash adapter for it to use with my PocketPC. When I have it connected to my PPC Pocket Streets appears to find it on COM4, but it never seems to find any satellites. The receiver shows a steady blue light, but when I attempt to have it find satellites it never locates any of them. Is there something configured wrong here?

Vex,
Since no one repsonded, and it has been a while since I've used the CF version of my GPS, I'll give it a try.
At the least, it will take a few minutes of your time to change the setting on your GPS port assignments to see which ones work and which ones don't. You can have a steady blue light and still not have the assignments set for receive/transmit. You might have them reversed. If someone else says that I'm wrong on that, OK, but at least try changing the port to 5, then test for Sats; change to 6 then test; change to 7, etc. One of them has to work correctly.
Maybe it's Tools/Options/Comm(ports) to check a different one to see if it works for you.
Good luck,

I have been using the Bluetooth GPS and it works great. A steady blue light indicates only that the GPS serial port is connected to the PDA, not that the GPS has synched up with any satellites.
All of the GPS' that use the small patch antenna do not work indoors. In a car, it must be on the dash with a clear view of the sky. If there is metal, building, etc between you and the satellite, it will not synch. However, if the GPS has an unobstructed view of the sky, you should be all set.
Good luck.

My i360 (bluetooth) locks onto satellites from anywhere inside my house.

On WM2003SE, the COM4 is correct. Is this the first time? First Fix is usually longest.
If you cannot be outdoors during this time then leave it by the biggest top floor window and plug it into an outlet. Go watch TV.
On my old serial receiver (Co-pilot Casio E-125) it took close to 3 minutes. According to ALK/ Co-pilot mine is the oldest known unit running. Its a granddaddy

From a posting elsewhere, I had someone recommend the use of Pharos' GPS jumpstart utility (found at http://download.pharosgps.com/downlo...e_download.htm) to help it acquire a signal faster. I gave it a try, but I'm not sure if it helped any. I ended up connecting the GPS to my notebook and going out for a drive in the most obstruction-free area I could find nearby. About half a mile from my house it managed to find its position, and once I hooked it to my PPC it worked there as well. Now I just need to find some better software than Pocket Streets to go with it, and I'll be set.

Hmm. Looks like some kind of reset utility. Probably deletes a stored sattelite log and forces a clean start. Cool.
