With the Garemin I got a 3D fix after 30sek with 6 satelits.
The Ultra found 11 satelits and after 7min it used 3 of them for a 2D fix. I waited 10 min more to see if the Ultra would improve, but not. I don't understand that talk about the good prestanda for the GM270 Ultra. When I tested it at sea in a moving boat i never got any fix att all. Is it any problem with my unit or is the GM270 Ultra as bad? The documentation (the "manual") give no information how to use the GPS. What is the differens betwen hot-, warm- and cold start for example? I have tryed Holux website but they have no information to give.
Another question is if GPSViewer can be ?the bad guy? as I understand it, this program control the start of the GPS and show its status? Just after the test I shut down the AXIM and started it again. Then it started it was ?frozen? (after using GPSViewer befor I shuted it down) and I had to do a soft reset. After the reset I used VisualGPS to see the status of the GPS and it at once found 7 good satelits at a 3D fix.

Have a look
here for satellite fix comparisons and
here for definitions of "cold/warm/hot" starts.

P.S. I did try a CF GPS with an old version of Mapopolis in a shop once and wasn't impressed either with the GPS or the software. Perhaps Garmin's iQue will be what we're looking for or perhaps it's worth considering a BT GPS device....
