windshield magnetic mount for Axim

Hello, this may be paranoid, but I was wondering if anyone who has the Dell Bluetooth GPS for x51v magnetic windshield mount had had any problems sticking the magnetic pad to the back of the Axim as the instructions suggest.
Thanks in advance

I don't think it's paranoid. I haven't done it myself but I did get a gooseneck arm with my GPS unit for the Axim. It has a windshield suction cup on one end and a magnetic pad on the other. It came with a 3M metal pad for the Axim (metal on one side sticky on the other). This one I have is more generic so it isn't product specific, i.e. you stick the pad to your device which in my case is the X50. It seems functional, but I just haven't had the guts to do it yet. Especially since in the case of the X50 it will fit on the battery door. I am also curious to know if anyone has done it.

yes. I'm sure themounts are identical. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to attach a source of magnetic enregy to the case of a computer

I use a magnetic mount for my Axim X50v, and it works fine. The magnet has zero affect on the Axim. The only problem I get is when I remove the Axim from the mount. Because the metal plate is glued to the battery door, sometimes when you unmount the Axim, it thinks the battery door is being opened. This causes it to shut down. Not a big deal, just slightly annoying. You can probably avoid it by placing the plate better.

Otherwise, the magnet holds the Axim in place well. I drive some rough terrain for my job, and I've never had it come loose.

Thanks for the feedback Kalel. Actually, I was never too concerned about the magnets themselves. There have been numerous posts regarding magnets and the Axim and the consensus seems to be that they don't cause any harm. I believe there should be concern if you use a microdrive, but I don't use one. My main concern has been about sticking the plate in the back and then realize that the battery door would not stay put or something like that.

Also keep in mind that even a MD is encased in a metal box, which affords a great deal of protection from magnetic flux.
