Mad OCN 5.0 has been an expensive mistake

Based on reviews, and in order to get Alaska maps, I bought OCN 5. The program was just plain "off" in more ways than I can count. It located me in the Ocean when driving down a coast road. It prepared me for a left turn when I was on a part of the Alaska highway with no cross roads for 50 miles. It repeatedly announces curves in the road as turns. It locked my X30H up three different times, requiring a complete program uninstall and reinstall to resume using it. I've tossed my notes out, but I had 4 pages of handwritten notes on the way the program misbehaved. I tried to contact the seller and the publisher and was told it must be my GPS. (Belkin Bluetooth). Both the bluetooth and the Axim X30 are listed as appoved devices on the company web site. I can't return or sell the program since it was installed on my Axim and was told it is now permenantly registered to the device somehow. This post difinitely qualifies as a rant, but I don't have limitless money, this purchase was like tossing $100 into the toilet. I have gone back to my original, bundled navigation software and, even though it's 2 or 3 years old now, it works well enough to get me where I'm going and is a thousand times better than OCN 5.0

Sorry to hear about your experiences. Never been to Alaska, so I can't comment on OCN there. It is extremely accurate and fast for me in the SE US as well as my travels to the NE. I too use an X30H and a BT GPS (BT-338). Oh well.

Did you open a ticket at OncourseNavigator.com and/or post in their forums?

You mention that you cannot return it. Have you tried? Depending on where you purchased it, I would think that you could. I have also read on these forums where another member received permission to sell his copy and the buyer got it licensed on his ppc.

Good luck.

just fyi, other GPS programs like iG see 'segments' of road as turns sometimes. You get in the habit of noticing it's the same name as the current road.

I've narrowed down a few lockups to today plugins with many diff gps packages.

the last time I saw that much shift, my time/time zone was incorrect in the PDA.

just a few thoughts that may help.
