Hanging on "City Search"
Some of you may have noticed various threads describing this fault. You may also have noticed that I recommended a solution which, for a while, worked. However, after my upgrade from 2.02 to 2.05 the problem has re-appeared.

TTN2 hangs, locks, freezes and requires a reboot if you try to type in any more than 3 letters in the City Search field whilst Navigating to somewhere.

I had recommended formatting the SD card and reinstalling the Maps. This, for me, worked.

The latest upgrade has made this problem re-occur and I do believe there is a software fault inside TTN2. (A software bug?)

I would love to know how many people have had or are having this problem? Perhaps detail the spec of your Axim and what make of SD card you have. This way we can all help and solve the issue or at least make TomTom aware.

I'll be once again formatting and reinstalling the maps to my SD card. This of course should not be necessary.

Please contribute and help us! Thank You

Boyd.

Problems!!
Hi Boyd,

Sorry you are having these problems again. I was having the same problems but I think it was your advice that I followed earlier to format the SD card as Fat32.

This all worked fine and now the Dell and TTN2 software is used in a haulage wagon and is in use for approx 8 hours per day with no such issues. This has been upgraded to 2.05.

Hope you resolve your problem soon!!

Yep, the problem has reappeared.

Axim Advanced 400, 128 MB Integral SD card (from expansys)

Currently using Holux GM210 aerial, until my CF one arrives.

TTN2 with 2.05 upgrade installed.

What to do ?

hmmm
Interesting. I had to reformat and reinstall maps to stop the hanging issue. I've now had to do this three times. What is interesting is that I too have the same SD card from expansys.

I would imagine it has something to do with the SD card rather than the software? Perhaps the SD card is too slow or not storing data correctly? Too many questions and no anwsers

Anyone?

Boyd

I am having the same problem with the find option, a bit of a pain really as if i knew were I was going I would not need the map.

And now for the (hopefully) good news

I have just looked on the Tom TOM site and TT2 2.22 has appeared and it does claim to have a new navigator find option

I will try this tonight and let you know

I couldn't till tonight so I downloaded it and installed it.

Guess what ?

It hangs/ crashes etc. when I type in three letters of an address.

I am tempted to totaly wipe the program and upgrade from 2.0 to 2.22 missing 2.05 but i am not holding out much hope

What version of the map is everyone using ? I am currently using the 96 Mb full UK map. Is this somethinhg to do with the problem. perhaps the large number of place names confuses it.

After a rebuild I'll try a smaller version of the map

As for my SD card, I am using the 128 Mb scandisk card I bought from Dell with the Axim. Which I formatted to FAT 32

AHH
I've done the 2.22 upgrade.
The problem is still there.

Will have to reformat the SD card and put the full maps back on. I too have a 128MB SD card.
How long do we have to wait to get some recognition from TomTom?

Boyd.

My question exactly, how long???? I have emailed them twice now.

May I suggest using a different product, can anyone recommend.

Don't give TomTom anymore of our hard earned money!!!!

Their customer support leaves a lot to be desired.

You can't be expected to carry the install CD with you everywhere you go just in case. Complete CRAP in my opinion.

Lets have a ritual TomTom Navigator CD burning....

I've posted on this topic before, but I've been using TTN2 in it's various guises on my Axim without problem. The only differences are the SD (or MMC in my case) card and the GPS (I'm using the Pretec)

So yes it may be a TTN2 issue, but first I would check again with the hardware. And considering all the problems reported elsewhere here, it looks like the SD card is the most likely fault

I agree that the SD card may be part of the problem, but TT2 should be part of the solution.

I have tried the 16 , 32 & 64 MB maps in their various forms and have had no problems ( yet !) but NOT the big 96 MB one.

I think that the address problem is that they do not allow enough memory for the table size

Just as an aside I registered at the tom tom website and had a problem wiith the dropdown for country and it only managed to list down to S. Not much good for the UK or even the USA their new market. Is this a signal to the problem or just a lucky guess?

Still no joy

Upgraded to 2.22, formatted SD card Fat32 (16KB Cluster Size)

Installed Maps again, still hangs.

I am using

Dell Axim X5 Advanced
A02 Rom
1 expansys SD card (128MB) to store maps (full UK)
Holux GM210 Aerial

Please can somebody come up with a solution, I am desperate!! Tom Tom don't reply to my emails and I am at a loss.

Just a thought, has anybody tried loading a 16MB map onto the built in storage? This will rule out the SD card!! Does the problem still manifest itself?
