Hi guys, just want to share my experience in GPS software search for Axim X51V. I believe the nice choice is Smart2Go Nationwide Maps & Directions (you will not find this product at their website - www.smart2go.com - but generally it's just the software component of their Mobile Navigator USA bundle). It's affordable ($49.99 at Staples), comes on DVD (so you will need a DVD drive to install it), and very easy to install and use. This software will create a plug-and-play SD/MMC card (so you will have to purchase one; USB memory card reader is included with the software for free) which will auto-run the software when inserted into the SD/MMC card slot of your Axim X51V. Works flawless with generic bluetooth GPS receivers (tested with 2 different brands) without any tweaking (will turn on Bluetooth radio by itself and search for available bluetooth GPS receivers by itself, too). Now about the maps size... Say, average map size is about 50 megs for 1 state. The software itself takes about 25 megs of the card's space. Very high street-level details, various views (even perspective view). Very fast on-the-go route creation. One but really BIG minus: Staples sells basic version, some features are disabled. I will post a list of disabled features here as soon as I can.

sorry to dissapoint you, but IGUIDANCE hand down, and i do smell spam also
Thank you and welcome to the site. but maybe you could tell us about the cons from your experience, 'cause now it smells awfully like SPAM!
No this is not spam. I'm not affiliated with Smart2Go in any way. Now about cons from my experience. 1) Nightmode map view and voice commands are not available; 2) As far as I can see, the software cannot be installed in main memory... not 100% sure but looks like it will work only from SD/MMC card; 3) If you want to create custom maps of your home area, you cannot just enter your zip code to get a desired map view - you will have to search for city name, street name, etc. That's it (at least for now). A few days ago I could say that DeLorme Street Atlas 2006 Handheld edition was my personal favourite. Not now... This software is much faster in everything - maps loading, re-routing, etc. Oh, and I forgot to mention it supports VGA screen resolution.
I checked out the website. 2 whole screenshots! With that kind of detail, how can I not plunk down my $350?
BTW; it is nice to see someone using MMC cards!
:rolling:

Well, the lowest price for IGUIDANCE at Amazon is $99.00 + shipping, which is a little bit too expensive for me. However, I will try to find it for less, and if it's better than Smart2Go, I will post my opinion here as well.

I think that $350 for software + gps receiver + car mount is a total ripoff, but $49.99 for this software itself is a good deal. I didn't try to urge anyone to buy the bundle for ridiculous price. You can buy generic bluetooth gps on eBay for about $60-$70 or even less + Smart2Go software at Staples for $50 + car mount (again, on eBay for a few bucks) and save more than $200.
Looks like the only way not to look as a spamer is to tear to pieces, not to praise something

No, it's an over the top praise post for a unknown product by a first time poster that raises suspicion. From the web site, there's NO WAY I would consider this software. I'd prefer a demo, but barring that I'd at least like to see some comprehensive info as to what I'd be buying. That site offers neither. Also, by "voice commands" do you mean it lacks audio turn by turn directions? If so, it's totally useless compared to it's competition (TomTom, iGuidance, OCN, Mapopolis). Comparisons to DeLorme Street Atlas 2006 Handheld edition don't make much of an impact either. If you're not a spammer, I apologize. From everything I've read so far, I'd suggest that you don't try any of the aforementioned nav packages unless you're ready to be woefully disappointed in Smart2Go.

Mapopolis is very good software, in my opinion. I don't like how much they want for it (I mean not for the software itself, but for maps). Tom-Tom is expensive as well... My point is: if you want really good and not-so-expensive software which works without any problems (and without any tweaking) with Windows Mobile 5 and cheap generic bluetooth GPS receiver, I would recommend Smart2Go. That's it. And I'm 100% agree with you about their website.
