can any one point me in the direction of software, that can record top speed, avargae speed, and tatal distance traveled?

going skiing soon, wanna see how fast i can get, tho i have a feeling the pocket pc will need to be nicely wrapped up so the screen works!

Mapopolis does this with GPS logging. The software is free and you can download and use sample maps, so it's free to try. You do need a GPS receiver.

If you go to Handango and search for "geocaching" you'll find quite a selection of software geared for exactly what you're looking for.

it's free (well there are blocked fonctions that are paid only but not really usefull imho)

That's what i use for my running training.

You get max, min, average speed, and you can export the track to google earth kml.
