Question Planning to get a GPS for my X51v...

Alrighty I have finally decided to get a GPS for my X51v... My budget is 200 bucks and below, and I want to get the best bang-for-buck I could get under this price... So many options I dont know where to start: Should I get Bluetooth or CF verson? Should I get one that is TomTom compatible or would any other generic ones do fine?

Hi there,

I went through a similiar situation as you are in deciding which GPS receiver to get. I ended up purchasing the OnCourse BT-339. From using it over the past 2 weeks I can say I'm not disappointed. I went with a bluetooth version because I can use it with my laptop. I purchased a bundle package with TomTom and BT-339 for around $230.00 from buyGPSNow.com. I did not want to spend so much either but in the end it does a good job. You're better off spending a little extra now for a higher end GPS receiver.

The GPS provides a really nice updated positioning and TomTom does a great job at re-routing when I take a turn off from the initial route plan.

There are several reviews of the BT-338/339 and TomTom. Do a search and you'll find some info. As you will find there's no best solution - it's what works for you.

Hope this helps and if you have any other specific questions let me know. I'll be happy to provide the info if I can.

-Mike

I purchased a bundle from buygpsnow.com as well, the same On Course BT-339 and MS Streets and Trips 2006 ($135). This combo really rocks! The Bluetooth connection works with my Dell Axim X50, my laptop with bluetooth dongle and even my Nokia 3650 phone with bluetooth and simple Longitude/Latitude display program (Symbian operating System).

I'm extremely pleased. I would have like TT Ver. 5 but much more money. Go for it if you need routing and audio turn-by-turn. Otherwise have a look at Streets & Trips.

Finally, I love GPS Tuner. I can import maps from various places and navigate with them as well.

I even used GPS Tuner = the BT-339 flying across the Atlantic at 33k feet and 550 mph. I set the BT-339 on the ledge of the port-hole (using a little clear tape to make sure it didn't fall off). It worked slick!!! I could follow take-off, enroute across the Atlantic and landing in Frankfurt Germany. My toys are fun!

I got a Rikaline 6033 for Christmas bundled with Destinator PN for $125 and that was complete with all maps for US & CANADA........ you can also get it for Europe........ the 6033 has a rubber outer cover so you can just sit it up on the dash and it won't move........it is very sensitive and I get extremely fast and accurate fixes............ Take a look here........

And the customer service people @ Destinator are FANTASTIC!!

Here is where to find them...... http://www.destinatortechnologies.com

And here is a review on the Rikaline 6033
