X51v/Dell GPS can't find Arkon serial GPS rcvr
Hello Friends,
I hope this post isn't headed for the department of redundancy department. I did find other posts touching on the subject but nothing that hit the nail on the head for me...
I recently upgraded from an X30 to an X51, and am new to the WM5 environment, which means ignorance is most likely my real problem.
I used an Arkon powered GPS mount for my X30, with Dell GPS sw, and it worked great (except that eventually all the internal plastic gears fell apart and I wound up super-gluing the clamp in one position - but that's another story). I went to use my X51v, and found that the USB cable connector is different. The folks and Arkon were kind enough to send me the correct cable at no charge.
So I hooked up my X51 with the new cable, and got the Dell GPS sw update for the X51, but it is not able to find the GPS receiver via the serial cable. It keeps turning on bluetooth and searching for a bluetooth reciever.
On my X30, within the Dell GPS sw I was able to select different COM ports depending on whether I wanted to use my Arkon serial rcvr or the Dell bluetooth rcvr (COM 1 for serial, COM 7 for bluetooth). Now, the only option under "GPS Options" is "Auto Detect," and when I select it, off it goes again looking for a bluetooth rcvr, completely ignoring the serial connection.
I know in WM5 there is a new GPS configuration option under the system settings. I think I need to fiddle with that somehow but I have no clue what to do exactly. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Eric
