Aximsitebluetoothicon Need help choosing a BT GPS

Hey,

I have an Axim X51V.
I want to buy a BT GPS. After checking I'm hesitating between two, please advise, I couldn't find a comparation anywhere, thanks.

1- OnCourse SiRF Star III Bluetooth GPS Receiver (WAAS enabled)
2- Holux GPSlim 236 Bluetooth GPS Receiver(SiRF III)

Thanks

FWIW, I was ready to spring for the Holux 236, but instead got the iTrek M3 from Semsons. Great little receiver, works with TomTom, iGuidance, Mapopolis and Memory-Map. Comes with a leather belt case as well. HTH.

I would go with the BT-339 and IGuidance. I'm using that setup with an x51v and it works perfectly. The 339 is very sensitive (I see 9 satellites with the receiver inside my house or on the floorboard of my car) and the IGuidance software works perfectly with WM5. The Arkon powered mount works very well also.

The Globalsat BT-338, Oncourse BT-339 and iTrek M3 are identical hardware. The conventional wisdom is that all SirfIII receivers have essentially the same sensitivity and performance. The only real difference between the Holux and the 338/339/M3 is the battery size, 850MAH vs 1700MAH.

I just had to make the same decision as you are considering right now. It came down to battery life for me, I guess it just all depends on if you're going to hard-wire the receiver into your car or you want to go on 17 hr hikes in the woods lol ;)

I am in the process of making exactly the same decision. I am leaning towards the Holux GPSlim 236 due to its ability to operate without the battery when powered from the vehicle power. I intend to leave it permanently connected in the car and power on with the ignition accessories. From my research, this is possible with the Holux GPSlim 236 but not with the Globsat BT-338 (and equiv). Its also a few bucks cheaper.

If I was going to be operating from the rechargeable battery, then the Globsat BT-338 (or equiv) would likely win my choice.
