What is the best gps software for axim x51v windows mobile 5
What is the best gps software for axin x51v 624mhz vga with windows mobile 5 using navteq maps. I am from ireland and the mapping here is not great but navteq has by far the best coverage for my country.
I know that the dell branded bluetooth package uses navteq, but is the software any good with my wm5 pda, is there a better package?
i am new to all this so any advice or help would be welcome !!:)

I use Dell's bluetooth GPS with WM5 and no problem. A lot of other brands work, too.

Yeah, it just really depends on what your needs are. There are a lot of great solutions out there each with their own pros and cons. You'll just have to do some digging to find out which one will work best for you. Feel free to search around here. There's a wealth of information right at your fingertips.

Also Interested...
I am about to buy a GPS system for my Dell x51 and have the same question (I know virtually nothing about them, just came up with this idea this weekend). But here are a few more of the details that I am looking for...
I am mainly concerned with the hardware (the GPS reciever)...
My batt life on my x51 is a little short, so I will want to power my PDA off of a car charger when I'm using it as a Navigation tool.
I expect to use it for long trips, so I'm concerned about the battery life of the GPS unit (from what I see they only last for 5 or 6 hours typically).
Are the GPS recievers which connect directly to the PDA (So non bluetooth) powered by the PDA?
Can all bluetooth GPS receivers be powered by an external source (ie. a car charger)?
So I think my ideal setup would be to have a GPS reciever which is powered by the PDA. Then the PDA would have constant power from the charger and the GPS unit would have constant power from the PDA.
It would also be nice if the GPS could take batteries as well. This would make it suitable for taking on a hike or something.
I would also like a GPS unit that does not require me to use a specific GPS application. After buying the GPS uniit (with or without software) i would like to be able to choose an improved GPS software application if I find one.
Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it. I am excited about buying a GPS unit as soon as possible (I'm very impatient).
Thanks!

There are several receivers that you can power with a car cord to keep charged, and several nice options for powered mounts, some with a built in amplified speaker. One nice thing about a bluetooth receiver is that it can be where signal is best, not where the power cord fits, and you aren't limited inits placement by a "wired" connection to the device. If I am using for more that 6 hours at a time, I give it a recharge with the power cord for an hour or so, while it is still on and working.
