After months of hemming and hawing and reading the reveiws on this site I finaly made the big purchase. x51v + iguidance 2.1.3 + globalsat bt-338 + seido g4500s powered mount.
All is well. Untill last night. I was driving from Dayton to Cleveland and back. Once on the way up and once on the way back iguidance crashed to desktop. No beeps, no warnings no nothing it just vanished.
This is very disturbing as I own a limo service and made my purhcase with the gps in mind. Hopefull this is an isolated incident and wont be an issue.
Just wondering if anyone else is having similar problems or if it just me.
Thanks for reading,
Dave
p.s. Had no other programs running in the background.
No problems here been using it for several months and even went from st louis to denver and back with no problems!! I love it and wouldn't use anything else
Curious! I've been using iGuidance for almost 2 years now and it's been rock solid. TomTom, on the other hand has been more like a rookie NASCAR driver.

I have seen it crash two or three times but never while actually navigating. usually it does that when it has been idle and then i try to change something. There is a newer version out that is called 2.1.3.2a i think. for registered users it is a free download. it fixed a lot of my problems. don't get the wrong idea, it has only happened two or three times and I use it all the time.

I've used this software since V 1.1 and have never had it crash. I use it a lot traveling from the Akron-Canton-Cleveland to Toledo/Detroit/Pittsburgh areas without problems. The maps are extremely accurate and the software very stable. Make sure that you have the latest version downloaded and installed as the last release is much faster and more responsive. If you find this crashing to be a repeating problem I'd suggest making a complete backup, doing a hard reset, and reinstall only the software you're using (the backup is in case you still have the problem so you can restore to your previous setup).
I bought my iguidance package about 2 weeks ago. It did crash on me once just like you described. I was on the road and the backlight was turned off and I tapped the screen to bring the display back up. It flashed on for a brief second and then dissapeared. At first i thought I had accidentally hit the "minimize" button :)
Thanks for all the responses guys, I appreciate your help.
BigDave: Do you have a link to v2.1.3.2a. I visited their website and cannot find it. I did register my copy when I got it.
Numskull: The Axim is not going into idle mode.
Other than the crashing I realy like the software. The maps have been accurate for the most part. The voice is clear and easy to understand. The POIs are not the greatest, but acceptable.
Also I sent an email to the iguidance people about the crashing here is their response:
While we had heard of program crashing issue w/ v1.1 which we released back in 2003, we haven't heard much crashing issue w/ the program since release of v2.0 in 2004. In most crashing cases, it's due to lack of memory resource on the PDA.
So:
1) Please first check to make sure you have installed iGuidance to your PPC main program memory. You may verify this by use File Explorer and locating "inav" on your PPC main memory under "program files\inav" and NOT on your SD card.
2) With iGuidance launched, you should reserve at least 10MB free onboard main PPC memory for route calculation. But for long distance routing, 15-20MB is recommended.
3) Since your PDA is running wm5, please also verify that you have configured and paired your receiver w/ your PDA properly. You may refer to wm5.0 software user manual for instruction on this as all bluetooth connection is controlled by the operating system itself and not by iGuidance. For the convenience of our customers, we also provide the following step-by-step instruction for your convenience:
BT Pairing and GPS Setting:
0. Please make sure iGuidance or whatever other GPS application you have is closed
1. Click on Start\Settings\Connections\Bluetooth
2. In the Mode tab, click on "Turn on Bluetooth" to enable Bluetooth functionality, if it is not already checked
3. In the Devices tab, click on "New Partnership..." to start scanning for Bluetooth devices
4. In the list of discovered Bluetooth devices, locate the Bluetooth GPS device, usually something with "..BT-GPS.."
-- If you cannot find this device, please make sure the bluetooth GPS Receiver is turned on and within 10ft of the Pocket PC or laptop , then click on Refresh
5. Select the BT GPS receiver and click on Next
6. Enter the Passkey and click on Next
-- you may need to check with the BT GPS manufacturer or their website for the Passkey. Try "0000" if you cannot find the information.
7. Next, select "Serial Port" and then click on Finish
8. In the COM Ports tab, click on "New Outgoing Port"
9. Select the identifier for the BT GPS receiver and click on Next
10. Select COM7 (default) or COM 8 (depends on your PPC model) and click on Finish; "Secure Connection" should already be checked
11. Click on OK to exit
12. Click on Start\Settings\System\GPS
13. In the Programs tab, select or make sure the GPS program port is set to "None"
-- the GPS program port is for applications which do not conform to wm5/Magneto's GPS data parse API
14. In the Hardware tab, set the "GPS hardware port" to COM7 (or COM8 depends on your PPC model) and the Baud rate to 4800
15. In the Access tab, select "Manage GPS automatically", if the option is not already checked
16. Click on OK to exit
17. Now start iGuidance
18. Click on View\GPS Options\COM Port and select COM7 (or COM8)
-- Please wait a few seconds before parsed data starts coming through
I also have x51v with iGuidance 2.1.3 and have experienced the same problem - I will be driving along following a route and it just disappears without warning. All of a sudden, it's no longer running. So I have to restart the program and re-establish the route. It's happened to me a number of times - not real frequently, but occasionally - and always without warning. Looks like I need to update. I appreciate the heads up on that. Hopefully, it will fix this problem.
I have x50v with iGuidance 2.1.3.2na (dnloaded frm inavcorp-used to allow install on SD card) and had the same prob on a trip frm MI to FL - program dropped off once on the way down and again once on the way back. Kit purchased frm SEIDIO - with G4500S cradle, iTrek Bluetooth GPS receiver. I guess that's not too bad of a track record, but as always, it failed when I needed it most :-). What I really didn't like was that iGuidance had me get off on I-75 @ 158 mm and take US 41 into my location when I normally get off @ 131 mm (27 miles on US 41 vs I-75 - a very bad choice!!!! Had prog set to quickest w/fewest turns, no other prog running, installed on 2GB SD card.
I dont know if my problem is the same as everyone elses but I had 4 instances this weekend and was able to determine what is causing it for me. Only occurs when I turn my ax back on after putting it in standby with Iguidance still running. After I turn it on Iguidance is still there running and every thing seems to be fine. I can access the menu button and the dropdown menus on the bottom of screen but if I acess any of the selections it immediately crashes without so much as a whimper. Its not running in the background either. It will also crash if I tap on the map screen which explains my previous post.
