Question X51v with TomTom Wired GPS. Help.

Hi there,

I am just new here so be kind!

I have just got a new x51v from work and my boss has gone and gotten a wired GPS receiver from TomTom with Navigator 5 ( he seems to have a grudge against bluetooth!)

I can't get the PDA to find the GPS receiver( it keeps coming up 'No GPS Device').
Had a look on the TomTom website and it looks as if it may not be compatible...is this true, or have any of you geniuses out there found out away around the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry again, the quick reply doesn't take the entire link, so it sends you elsewhere. Here is the full text I entered after I solved my problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have Tom Tom Naviagator 5 working perfectly with the cabled dell gps receiver. Please see tye followig instructions (that I followed and helped me get my config to work) which I found under www.aximusers.com (user MiDiMan888).

Hope it helps you.

x50v + WM 5 + Tom Tom 5.21 + wired GPS working solution is here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had the exact same problem like others and just got mine working.

The problem is due to the corrupted serial driver name in the registry, that is why you see "Se???a?? ?a??d?? st?? COM1: " in Tom Tom GPS menu.

1. Use a registry editor, e.g. PHM Registry Editor v0.70
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities...ryeditor.shtml

2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial

3. You will see the value name "FriendlyName" has some Russian characters for the value data

4. Change that to Serial Cable on COM1:

5. Make sure you exit registry editor from Tools -> Exit, that will save the changes properly.

6. Now go to Tom Tom and your wired GPS should be working. You may need to do a soft reset if Tom Tom is still not picking up your wired GPS.

[meldrew] I DON'T BELIEVE IT! [/meldrew]

I've just bought a BT GPS, then spent a day getting it to work, 'cos my serial cable device wouldn't connect.....This reg mod has fixed it.

Have you tried changing the Baud Rate ?

I spent a full week troubleshooting My Dell Axim + WM5 + Holux Compact Flash GR 271 GPS as I had COM Port problems, loaded a bunch of software (GPSView, GPSMonitor, GPSDash, Winfast, etc....), and it seems that 3 things made the GPS receiver work :

1- downloading the latest Dell Axim ROM A01 (french)

2- adding the " ElSerial.dll " instead of " Serial.dll " on Windows , then modifying the Registgry accordingly.

3- Contrarly to the Holux notice that was indicating 4800 as a Baud rate, I switched to 38400

....and it works perfectly now
