need to choose between...
hi, can anyone tell me the difference between these two bundles in buygpsnow.com :
1)CompactFlash GPS with Mapopolis Navigator North America (Online Subscription) $249.95 AND 2) CompactFlash GPS with Mapopolis Navigator North America (CD ROM Edition) $259.95

under CD ROM edition, it says NO ACCESS to downloads maps library from Mapopolis.com , is that mean no update availabe for the maps or have to pay for upgrade?

but under online subscription, it do say No expiration on maps
and Unlimited downloads from Mapopolis.com

so it looks like to me the cheaper one is better?!

thanks
ps. they are 15% off, must be a good deal

I got the $249 one and it allows as many downloads as you want from Mapopolis for 1 year and the maps never expire. The other version just sends you all the maps on a CD so you don't have to download. Unless downloading is a problem for you, go for the cheaper one.

Downloads for one year, but no map updates. The Mapopolis site tracks which version of maps you bought, and gives you access to only that version. But lucky you - Mapopolis just did a major upgrade of their maps, and you get this brand-new edition.

Of course, the program can be updated whenever you wish at no charge. There are two versions of their application -- 3.24 for those with the old maps and 4.14 for those with the new.

Hey, thanks for the info, but do you know about Routis?
is it very similar to Mapopolis?
I have a friend can let me borrow his Routis CD and use it,
but I am not sure will Mapopolis be a better software?
thanks

I haven't used Routis but I couldn't be happier with Mapopolis and most people seem to like Mapopolis better. If you do a search here for Routis you will probably find some more opinions. If you do go with Mapopolis I can almost guarantee you will be happy.

Both Routis and Mapopolis have official forums at gpspassion.com. Here you can read comments/questions/complaints from users. My impression is that Mapopolis has fewer bugs, is more stable, and is a little faster. Routis has a better user interface and the maps look better. Somebody said they plan to post a comparison soon. I'm sure a lot of people will be interested to read it when it's posted, and there's sure to be plenty of comments.

Mapopolis has been around for a while, and has a great reuptation for excellent customer support. Routis is pretty new.
